Emphysematous lungs do not affect visibility of virtual-assisted lung mapping
Conclusion The skill of the marking operator and the patient’s smoking history had significant effects on the intraoperative visibility of markings made by virtual-assisted lung mapping, whereas emphysematous lungs did not affect the intraoperative visibility of lung markings. Perioperative outcomes of video- and robot-assisted segmentectomies
Conclusions The morbidity rate of minimally invasive segmentectomy was low. The short-term results of video-assisted and robot-assisted segmentectomies were similar, and more data are required to show any advantages between the two techniques. Long-term oncologic outcomes are necessary to evaluate these new surgical practices. (Source: Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals)

Pectus excavatum repair using Prolene polypropylene mesh
Conclusion With due attention to the advantages of Prolene polypropylene mesh, such as remaining permanently in place, adapting to various stresses encountered in the body, resisting degradation by tissue enzymes, and trimming without unraveling, we concluded that this mesh is suitable for use as posterior sternal support in pectus excavatum patients. Hidden (end-on) patent ductus arteriosus: recognition and device closure
Conclusions Recognizing an end-on patent ductus arteriosus and utilizing the right anterior oblique view simplified device closure. For ducts well-profiled in the lateral view, the right anterior oblique view is unnecessary and avoidable. (Source: Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals)

Infarction of the lingula following left upper lobe trisegmentectomy
We report the case of a 74-year-old woman who underwent thoracotomy and left upper lobe trisegmentectomy for T1bN0Mo squamous cell carcinoma and subsequently developed infarction and hepatization of the remaining lingula. A completion left upper lobectomy was performed and the patient made a full recovery. (Source: Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals)

Malignant glomus tumor of trachea: a case report with literature review
We present the case of a 74-year-old man explored for cough and dyspnea. Bronchoscopy showed a polypoid mass arising from the posterolateral tracheal wall. Computed tomography demonstrated a mid-tracheal tissular mass obliterating the tracheal lumen. Resection and anastomosis of the trachea were performed. The histological and immunohistochemical findings were consistent with malignant glomus tumor. (Source: Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals)

Bilothorax as a complication of percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage
We report two cases of bilothorax that occurred as a complication of percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage. In an 86-year-old woman who had undergone percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage for obstructive jaundice, bilothorax occurred after accidental removal of the tube. She recovered with chest drainage only. An 83-year-old man who had undergone percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage for cholecystitis developed bilothorax with infection. He recovered with thoracoscopic curettage. Although bilothorax is a rare complication of percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage, appropriate diagnosis and prompt treatme...

Primary diffuse pleural rhabdomyosarcoma in an adult patient
Rhabdomyosarcoma is an aggressive malignant tumor of childhood, originating from immature cells that are destinated to form striated skeletal muscle. It usually arises in the head and neck or the extremities. Primary diffuse pleural rhabdomyosarcoma is exceptionally rare. Herein we report a case of primary diffuse pleural rhabdomyosarcoma in a 48-year-old man. The diagnosis was confimed by percutaneous pleural biopsy. Chemotherapy (cisplatin, ifosfamide, adriamycin, vincristine) was initiated due to the large volume of the tumor. After 3 months, computed tomography of the thorax showed stable radiological findings. (Source...
