A recent article from the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) described State Opioid Response Plans that have been developed by nine states to address opioid use disorder in 2018. Rural Aging in Place Tool Kit
Aging in Place, or remaining in their homes, is something many older Americans would like to be able to do. Planning ahead and knowing how to access services can help make this possible. The Aging in Place Toolkit for rural populations has been updated by the Rural Health Information Hub. The toolkit compiles evidence-based and models and resources to support organizations which are implementing aging in place in rural communities across the United States. The modules in the toolkit contain resources and information focused on developing, implementing, evaluating, and sustaining rural aging in place programs. Mom-to-Be ’ s High Blood Sugar May Raise Baby ’ s Odds for Heart Defects
The latest study on the effects of high blood sugar during pregnancy found that not only does diabetes in pregnancy raises the odds for congenital heart defects but the threat may also extend to women who simply have high blood sugar levels — not just full-blown diabetes. Among women who did not have diabetes before or during pregnancy, the risk of having a child with a congenital heart defect rose 8 percent for every 10 milligrams-per-deciliter increase in blood sugar (glucose) levels in the early stages of pregnancy, the researchers found. MedlinePlus printing enhancements
Earlier this month, NLM's MedlinePlus released an enhancement that will allow users to choose what they want to print from a health topic web page: just the summary text, or the full page including the summary and all links. When you use the grey Print button on a MedlinePlus health topic page, a dialog will open allowing the choice of “Topic Summary only” or “Full topic including all links.” This feature is available on both English and Spanish health topics.
