The relationship of travel distance with cystectomy access and outcomes
Regionalization of care and travel distance may result in unintended consequences for complex surgery such as cystectomy. Our objective was to evaluate effect of differential distance on cystectomy receipt among patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) and investigate the association between travel distance and cystectomy outcomes such as readmission. The resounding effect of DNA repair deficiency in prostate cancer
An estimated one-fifth or more of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) harbor defects in genes involved in DNA repair pathway (e.g., BRCA2, BRCA1, and others). Early evidence suggests these alterations may be predictive of therapeutic response to PARP inhibitors and platinum chemotherapy, thought to reflect principles of synthetic lethality and are currently being investigated in an increasing number of prospective clinical trials. Other studies have examined these alterations as prognostic biomarkers and in association with response to currently available treatments. (Source: Urologic Oncology: Seminars...

Return to work following robot-assisted laparoscopic and open retropubic radical prostatectomy: A single-center cohort study to compare duration of sick leave
To compare the duration of sick leave in patients with localized prostate cancer after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) and open retropubic RP (ORP) at a German high-volume prostate cancer center. (Source: Urologic Oncology: Seminars and Original Investigations)

Effects of perineural invasion on biochemical recurrence and prostate cancer-specific survival in patients treated with definitive external beam radiotherapy
Perineural invasion (PNI) has not yet gained universal acceptance as an independent predictor of adverse outcomes for prostate cancer treated with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT). We analyzed the prognostic influence of PNI for a large institutional cohort of prostate cancer patients who underwent EBRT with and without androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). Upper tract urothelial carcinoma following intravesical bacillus Calmette-Gu érin therapy for nonmuscle-invasive bladder cancer: Results from a multi-institutional retrospective study
The aim of this study was to clarify the prognostic indicators for upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) following intravesical bacillus Calmette-Gu érin (BCG) therapy for nonmuscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). (Source: Urologic Oncology: Seminars and Original Investigations)

Incidence and perioperative risk factors for early acute kidney injury after radical cystectomy and urinary diversion
Early postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) is associated with increased morbidity and mortality following major surgery. Only few reports exist on postoperative AKI and specifically its risk factors after radical cystectomy (RC) and urinary diversion (UD). We aimed to identify risk factors for AKI in patients undergoing RC and UD. (Source: Urologic Oncology: Seminars and Original Investigations)

Editorial: Managing locally advanced bladder cancer. Third International Bladder Cancer Network seminars series
This third Seminars Series of the IBCN continues to appraise current knowledge, question today's standards and aim at further advancing the current management of patients with bladder cancer [1]. However, in contrast to previous issues, which were comprised largely of review articles, this time original research articles are also included. The expression of p-mTOR and COUP-TFII correlates with increased lymphangiogenesis and lymph node metastasis in prostate adenocarcinoma
Mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) is a central regulator of major cellular processes such as growth and proliferation. Deregulated mTOR signaling is implicated in a wide spectrum of human malignancies including prostate cancer. The aim of this study is to address the role of phosphorylated mTOR (p-mTOR) in prostate adenocarcinoma-induced lymphangiogenesis and lymph node metastasis as well as to investigate its relationship with chicken ovalbumin upstream promoter transcriptional factor 2 (COUP-TFII) and the vascular endothelial growth factors A/C (VEGF A/C).
