Immunoprotective effect of lentinan in combination with miltefosine on Leishmania ‐infected J‐774A.1 macrophages
Summary Rejuvenation of deteriorated host immune functions is imperative for successful annihilation of Leishmania parasites. The use of immunomodulatory agents may have several advantages as they conquer immunosuppression and, when given in combination, improve current therapeutic regimens. We herein investigated the immunostimulatory potency of a β‐glucan, lentinan either alone or in combination with short dose of standard drug, miltefosine on Leishmania‐infected J‐774A.1 macrophages. Our study shows that infected macrophages when stimulated with 2.5 μg/mL and above concentrations of lentinan secreted significan...

Host Th1/Th2 immune response to  Taenia solium cyst antigens in relation to cyst burden of neurocysticercosis
This study examined ex vivo CD4+ T cells and in vitro Th1 and Th2 cytokine responses to T solium cyst antigens of peripheral blood mononuclear cells of healthy subjects from endemic and non‐endemic regions and of single and multi‐cyst infected patients for association to cyst burden of neurocysticercosis. T solium cyst antigens elicited a Th1 cytokine response in healthy subjects of T solium endemic and non‐endemic regions and those with single cyst infections and a Th2 cytokine response from subjects with multi‐cyst neurocysticercosis. Multi‐cyst neurocysticercosis subjects also exhibited low levels of effector ...

Induction of regulatory T cells by Opisthorchis viverrini
This study indicated that O. viverrini infected hamsters could induce TGF‐β+ CD4+ Treg‐like cells. The CSAg specific Tregs secreted high TGF‐β, and limited immune cell proliferation. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. (Source: Parasite Immunology)

M1 polarization and the effect of PGE2 on TNF ‐α production by lymph node cells from dogs with visceral leishmaniasis
This study aimed to evaluate the arginase activity in adherent macrophages cultured from the lymph nodes of healthy and naturally infected dogs and to examine the NO2 and PGE2 levels in the supernatant of these cultures. In addition, the regulatory effect of PGE2 on the production of tumor necrosis factor (TNF‐α) and interleukin‐10 (IL‐10) in supernatants from the total lymph node were observed in leukocyte cultures. The arginase activity was lower in the adherent macrophages cultured from the lymph nodes of naturally infected dogs and there were higher concentrations of NO2 and PGE2 in the supernatants of these cul...
