An unusual case of fistula formation and thrombosis between arteriovenous graft and a native vein
Publication date: Available online 26 July 2015 Source:Kidney Research and Clinical Practice Author(s): Young Sub Kim, Seung Ok Choi, Jisun Choi, Changjo Im, Byoung Geun Han Arteriovenous graft for hemodialysis vascular access is a widely used technique with many advantages. However, it has crucial complications with graft thrombosis and infection. We recently experienced an unusual case of arteriovenous graft complication involving graft thrombosis related to fistula formation between the graft and the natural vein with infection. We diagnosed this condition using Doppler ultrasound and computed tomography ...

Successfully treated isolated renal artery pseudoaneurysm in a patient with Behçet's disease
We report a case of renal artery pseudoaneurysm induced by Behçet's disease and treated successfully with coil embolization. A 56-year-old woman with Behçet's disease presented with an incidental left renal artery pseudoaneurysm measuring 18 mm. We successfully performed endovascular treatment with coil embolization instead of surgical treatment. (Source: Kidney Research and Clinical Practice)

A Case of Rhabdomyolysis in Patient Taking Nebivolol
We report a patient who developed rhabdomyolysis after changing medication to nebivolol. A 75-year old woman was admitted to our hospital because of generalized weakness originating 2 weeks before visiting. Approximately 1 month prior to her admission, her medication was changed from carvedilol 12.5 mg to nebivolol 5 mg. Over this time span she had no other life style changes causing rhabdomyolysis. Her blood chemistry and whole body bone scan indicated rhabdomyolysis. We considered newly prescribed nebivolol as a causal agent. She was prescribed carvedilol 12.5mg, which she was previous taken, instead of nebivolol. She wa...

Assessment the relationship between serum soluble klotho and carotid intima-media thickness and left ventricular dysfunction in hemodialysis patients
Conclusion The present study showed that, patients with a low s-klotho associated with increased CIMT, LV dysfunction and CAD more often and it seems that, there was independent association between s-klotho and CIMT,LVEF and CAD. (Source: Kidney Research and Clinical Practice)

Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity in Peritoneal Dialysis
Publication date: Available online 13 January 2016 Source:Kidney Research and Clinical Practice Author(s): Wai Kei Lo Metabolic Syndrome refers to a clustering of features related to increased risk of cardiovascular disease, which include obesity or central obesity, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus or insulin resistance, together with hypertension. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome in end-stage renal failure patients on peritoneal dialysis is quite common, ranging from 40 to 60%, depending on the population studied and the definition used. However, there are controversies about the clinical outcome of patients with...

Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D as a predictor of hospitalization-free survival in predialysis and dialysis patients with chronic kidney disease: A single-center prospective observational analysis
Conclusions Lower serum 25(OH)D level predicted poorer hospitalization-free survival in both predialysis and dialysis chronic kidney disease patients. (Source: Kidney Research and Clinical Practice)

Comparison of Clinical Outcomes between ABO-Compatible and ABO-Incompatible Spousal Donor Kidney Transplantation
Conclusion The clinical outcomes for ABOc and ABOi spousal donor KT were equivalent. In ABOi KT, an emotionally motivated spousal donor KT may be a good alternative to the problem of the absolute shortage of kidney donations. (Source: Kidney Research and Clinical Practice)

Clinical utility of far-infrared therapy for improvement of vascular access blood flow and pain control in hemodialysis patients
Conclusions FIR therapy doesn’t improve the unassisted patency compared with the control, but improve needling pain. More larger and multicenter study is needed to evaluate the effect of FIR therapy. (Source: Kidney Research and Clinical Practice)

Direct vascular actions of quercetin in aorta from renal hypertensive rats
Conclusion Acute exposure to quercetin appears to improve endothelium-dependent relaxation and inhibit the contractile response, similar to the effect of ascorbic acid in 2K1C hypertension. These results partially explain the vascular beneficial effects of quercetin in renal hypertension. (Source: Kidney Research and Clinical Practice)

Chronic kidney disease and risk factors responsible for sudden cardiac death: a whiff of hope?
Publication date: Available online 15 December 2015 Source:Kidney Research and Clinical Practice Author(s): Márcio Galindo Kiuchi, Decio Mion Several studies have shown a strong independent association between chronic kidney disease (CKD) and cardiovascular events, including death, heart failure and myocardial infarction. Recent clinical trials extend this range of adverse cardiovascular events, also including ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. Furthermore, other studies suggest structural remodeling of the heart and electrophysiological alterations in this population. These processes may explain th...

Evaluating the association of IL-10 gene promoter-592 A/C Polymorphism with lupus nephritis susceptibility.
Conclusion IL-10 suggested to play a role in pathogenesis and development of LN.However, the promoter -592 A/C of IL-10 gene suggested to be not associated with serum IL-10 levels or LN susceptibility. Also it appears that promoter -592 A/C of IL-10 gene not associated with LN activity or the pathological classes of LN.
