Utilization of Quality Improvement Methodology to Standardize Communication of Outside Hospital Transfers in a General Surgery Program
There is no standardized method of communication regarding the arrival of outside hospital (OSH) transfers at our institution. We utilized quality improvement methodologies to enhance sign-out, benefiting both resident workflow and patient care. (Source: Journal of Surgical Education)

An Analysis of Research Quality and Productivity at Six Academic Orthopaedic Residencies
It remains largely unknown what factors impact the research productivity of residency programs. We hypothesized that dedicated resident research time would not affect the quantity and quality of a program's peer-reviewed publication within orthopedic residencies. These findings may help programs improve structure their residency programs to maximize core competencies. (Source: Journal of Surgical Education)

Long-Term Skills Retention Following a Randomized Prospective Trial on Adaptive Procedural Training
This study ’s objective was to investigate long-term outcomes of a double blinded, randomized control trial conducted with medical students assessing CuSum-guided curriculum against volume-based standards. The trial found a nearly 20% reduction in practice time to reach proficiency using the CuSum curriculum but long-term effects of decreased practice volume on proficiency is unknown. Correlation of Objective Assessment Data With General Surgery Resident In-Training Evaluation Reports and Operative Volumes
Faculty evaluations, ABSITE scores, and operative case volumes often tell little about true resident performance. We developed an objective structured clinical examination called the Surgical X-Games (5 rooms, 15 minutes each, 12-15 tests total, different for each postgraduate [PGY] level). We hypothesized that performance in X-Games will prove more useful in identifying areas of strength or weakness among general surgery (GS) residents than faculty evaluations, ABSITE scores, or operative cases volumes. Head and Neck Anatomy: Effect of Focussed Near-Peer Teaching on Anatomical Confidence in Undergraduate Medical Students
To assess the effect of near-peer head and neck anatomy teaching on undergraduates and to quantify the benefit from a focussed teaching course. Near-peer teaching involves colleagues within close seniority and age proximity teaching one another on a specified topic. (Source: Journal of Surgical Education)

Face, Content, and Construct Validations of Endoscopic Needle Injection Simulator for Transurethral Bulking Agent in Treatment of Stress Urinary Incontinence
Endoscopic injection of urethral bulking agents is an office procedure that is used to treat stress urinary incontinence secondary to internal sphincteric deficiency. Validation studies important part of simulator evaluation and is considered important step to establish the effectiveness of simulation-based training. The endoscopic needle injection (ENI) simulator has not been formally validated, although it has been used widely at University of California, Irvine. We aimed to assess the face, content, and construct validity of the UC, Irvine ENI simulator. (Source: Journal of Surgical Education)
