Abstract The study aim was to evaluate the administration and achievements of a Fragile X syndrome (FXS) centre in Chile. Families with children with FXS who sought care at our centre (CDTSXF) answered a survey to evaluate parent satisfaction. We analyzed adherence to management and the costs of CDTSXF operation. The percentage of parents satisfied with CDTSXF management ranged from 38% for speech development, to 100% for general management. The financial costs covered 70% of economic costs of centre operation. Patient adherence was associated with the age at admission to CDTSXF. Low satisfaction with language development ...

Applying Restrictive Measures in the Care of Adolescents With Mild Intellectual Disabilities: Attitudes of Support Staff and Policy Implications
Abstract Research suggests that restrictive measures are widely used on adolescents with mild intellectual disabilities. In the Netherlands, restrictive measures are defined as all measures that limit the freedom of a person. In most countries, legislation and policies that seek to reduce the use of restrictive measures focus on seclusion and mechanical and physical restraints. The study aimed to investigate the extent to which restrictive practices are used in the care of adolescents with mild intellectual disabilities while also exploring the attitudes of support staff toward these interventions. A survey study was done ...

A Review of Global Literature on Using Administrative Data to Estimate Prevalence of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
This study reviews literature from 12 countries in which retrospective administrative data have been used to estimate population‐based prevalence of IDD, identifies promising practices in that literature, and discusses the feasibility of applying those promising practices to other countries. Administrative data sources can be used to identify the number of people with IDD (numerators) in the presence of population estimates from which people with IDD are drawn (denominators) for discrete geographic locations. Case ascertainment methods, age groupings, data years captured, and other methods vary, contributing to a wide va...

Validity of Self ‐Reported Height and Weight to Derive BMI in Adults Participating in Special Olympics
The objectives of this study were to determine the validity of self‐reported height, weight, and derived body mass index (BMI), and to determine the diagnostic accuracy of derived BMI to identify overweight and obesity. Self‐reported height and weight were collected from 40 adult Special Olympics participants. The validity of self‐reported height and weight was determined by comparing them to measured height and weight. The differences between self‐reported and measured height, weight, and derived BMI were not significantly different; however, these findings were derived from results with wide confidence intervals....
