Mucormycosis Vertebral Osteomyelitis
We report a 16-year-old patient with newly diagnosed acute lymphoid leukaemia who developed extensive vertebral osteomyelitis caused by mucormycosis. He was treated with three-level subtotal spondylectomy and long-term oral antifungal medications. He had no neurological deficit after the operation. Unicompartmental knee replacement – An underrated alternative of total knee replacement: A matched comparative study analysing their benefits and risks in local population
Conclusion Because of less operative risk and faster rehabilitation, this study suggested that unicompartmental knee replacement is more cost effective and might be a better choice for patients with unicompartmental arthritis in local population. Iliotibial band impingement by overhanging tibial tray: A pain generator after total knee replacement treatable without revision
We report a case of painful crepitus over Gerdy's tubercle after total knee replacement. Iliotibial band impingement by overhanging tibial tray was diagnosed. The symptom persisted despite physiotherapy and local corticosteroid injection. A combined arthroscopic and open approach was used to excise intraarticular scarring and release the impinged iliotibial band. The painful crepitus was resolved instantaneously without recurrence at 3 year follow-up. Morbidity associated with component revision has been avoided. Excision of distal ulnar exostosis: A case series and literature review
Conclusion Simple excision of distal ulnar exostosis improves forearm rotation and provides some restoration of growth in skeletally immature patients with Masada type I deformity. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation)

Twelve-year follow-up of a case of proximal femoral Unicameral Bone Cyst (UBC) treated by steroid injection using radiological and DXA scan data
This report is of a proximal femoral unicameral bone cyst in a patient presented at 3 years. Intra-lesional steroid injection was used to treat this large active lesion. The response to treatment was monitored with the use of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scan as an indirect method of monitoring the activity of the bone cyst. The patient had developed stress fracture during the course of treatment which had remodelled fully after successful treatment with multiple injections; at 12-year follow-up, the patient reached skeletal maturity. The affected femur had remodelled back to normal radiological appearance witho...

Changes in rehabilitation outcomes by new guidelines of Hong Kong Hospital Authority in implant choice for femoral neck fractures —Austin Moore versus cemented Exeter hemiarthroplasty
Conclusion The new guidelines in replacing AMA with cemented Exeter hemiarthroplasty resulted in better patient outcomes. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation)

Delayed tibial-platform periprosthetic stress fracture after unicompartmental knee arthroplasty: Uncommon and devastating complication
Publication date: December 2018 Source:Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation, Volume 25 Author(s): Yuk-Wah Hung, Jason Chi-Ho Fan, Carson Ka-Bon Kwok, Ellis Lok-Fai Wong, Carman Ka-Man Lo Periprosthetic fracture around total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a well-described complication. Yet, report of medial tibial plateau stress fracture after unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) is limited. One case of delayed stress fracture of medial tibial plateau after UKA, which was salvaged by conversion to TKA was reported. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report related to Zimmer Unicompartmental...

Proximal hamstring avulsion injury in an ultimate frisbee player: Case report and literature review
We present the case of an elite ultimate player who suffered a proximal hamstring avulsion injury. A 26-year-old male athlete was evaluated in our office 2 weeks after being involved in a collision during an ultimate game. Magnetic resonance imaging of the hamstrings showed an extensive, high-grade right-sided tear with a 5–6 cm of tendon retraction and moderate signal in the muscle extending to the thigh. Delayed open repair of the avulsed tendon was performed through a posterior approach under general anaesthesia. Twelve months after surgery, the patient had no complaints, and his range of motion and strength had rec...

Distal tibia metaphyseal fractures: Which is better, intra-medullary nailing or minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis?
Conclusion Thus we conclude that intramedullary nailing is better choice of implant in patients with extra- articular distal tibia fractures & helps in early weight bearing and ambulation of patient with fewer complications. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation)

Os intermetatarseum may not interfere with metatarsus primus varus deformity correction: A case report
Publication date: December 2018 Source:Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation, Volume 25 Author(s): Daniel Y. Wu It has been believed that the correction of metatarsus primus varus (MPV) deformity of hallux valgus foot using nonosteotomy procedures would be compromised by the presence of os intermetatarseum (OI). Therefore, no soft tissue procedure has ever been reported for the correction of MPV deformity of hallux valgus foot. This is a case report of a female patient with bilateral hallux valgus deformity and also a large OI of her left foot that was corrected, satisfactorily and simultaneously, with a so...

Bilateral Charcot hip arthropathy due to tabes dorsalis: A case report
This article illustrates the clinical course of a patient diagnosed to have bilateral Charcot hip arthropathy secondary to tabes dorsalis from delayed untreated syphilitic infection. This differential diagnosis of rapid bilateral hip destruction was a near-extinct entity, and a high index of suspicion is needed to prevent untoward sequelae. Comparison of gait biomechanics in patients with and without knee osteoarthritis during different phases of gait
Conclusion The largest mechanical changes are seen in the first phase of gait in osteoarthritic patients. Although COP is an easy to measure tool, it is not as sensitive as KAA and did not demonstrate a significant difference between healthy and medial OA patients. Immediate weight-bearing as tolerated has improved outcomes compared to non –weight-bearing after surgical stabilisation of midshaft clavicle fractures in polytrauma patients
Conclusions Our data suggest that an immediate WB as tolerated protocol for polytrauma patients after surgical fixation of displaced clavicle fractures may decrease the overall length of stay. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation)

Management Approach of Penetrating Vertebral Artery Injury With Concomitant Cervical Nerve Root Injury in Regional Hospital: Report of Two Cases
We present two cases of penetrating vertebral artery injury with concomitant cervical nerve root injury managed in our centre. The first case was a young gentleman who suffered from neck injury by broken metal fragment. Cervical nerve root injury was suspected preoperatively. Massive bleeding from vertebral artery was encountered during wound exploration. It was managed by ligation, followed by retrograde endovascular embolisation. The second case was a young lady being assaulted with knife and fork over the neck. She was also suspected to have cervical nerve root injury preoperatively. Vascular control of vertebral artery...
