An Unusual Case of Volar Dislocation of Thumb Metacarpophalangeal Joint—A Case Report 病例報告—拇指掌指關節掌側脫位的罕見病例
Publication date: Available online 7 February 2015 Source:Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation Author(s): Ho-Yin Man , Ka-Chun Ip , Kin-Bong Lee Thumb metacarpophalangeal joint dislocation is an uncommon injury. Most of the dislocations are dorsal, and volar dislocation is rare. Only a total of 18 cases of volar dislocation of thumb metacarpophalangeal joint are published in English and other international languages. Successful closed reduction was uncommon. The majority of these volar dislocations required open reduction. In this paper, an unusual case of volar dislocation of the thumb metacarpophalan...

Strategies for Revision Total Ankle Replacement 全踝關節置換翻修手術的策略
Publication date: Available online 20 November 2014 Source:Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation Author(s): Thomas S. Roukis As the frequency of primary total ankle replacement (TAR) continues to build, revision will become more commonplace. At present there are no “standard principles” associated with revision TAR. What is clear is that the current approaches are technically complex, fraught with complications and no one approach represents the only answer. Exchange of TAR metallic components to the same system standard or dedicated revision components are viable options with limited occurrence of co...

Report of a Rare Case of Hand Bony Involvement of Sarcoidosis in a Chinese Young Man 罕見病例報告: 一名患有手骨肉狀瘤病的中國年輕男子
Publication date: Available online 7 November 2014 Source:Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation Author(s): Shiu-Him Jonathan Yuen , Chi-Pan Simon Yuen Musculoskeletal involvement of sarcoidosis is a rare entity, reported to have an incidence of 1–13%. Here we describe a case of sarcoidosis, with a history of finger sprain after a trivial injury, and incidental finding of multiple bony involvement over the left hand after radiography and magnetic resonance imaging. Anthropometric Measurement of Tunnel Lengths for Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction in Chinese 在中國病患者進行前交叉韌帶重建隧道長度的測量結果
Conclusion ACL reconstruction is a complex procedure that relies on good tendon graft length, graft size, tunnel length, and secure fixation method. Inadequate posterolateral tunnel length may contribute to short-term complications as well as long-term failure. Further refining of the choices of graft, better orientation of tunnels, and a better fixation method may be important, especially in the Chinese population with smaller knees. The Clinical Outcome of Management of Periprosthetic Infection in Total Knee Replacement 治療全膝關節置換術假體周圍感染的臨床結果
Conclusion The incidence of TKR infection in our hospital is comparable to the reported incidence in the literature. This study also showed that a two-stage operation has a higher success rate in the management of chronic TKR infection. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation)

An Unusual Case of “Late” Central Protrusion of the Helical Blade of Proximal Femoral Nail Antirotation
We reported a case that presented late in the postoperative period that showed some bone healing and was erroneously treated with removal of the implant, resulting in varus malunion after implant removal. Possible causes for late presentation, preventive measures, and the need for early surgical intervention are discussed. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation)

Breakage and Migration of Metal Wires in Operated Patella Fractures: Does it Correlate with Time?
Conclusions The risk of patellar tension-band wire breakage was associated with increase time lapse from fracture fixation, but not the patients' age upon fracture fixation. The risk of wire breakage significantly increases after 12 months from the fracture fixation. Wire breakage can lead to further morbidities or complications. Routine removal of wire loops may be indicated. Future prospective longitudinal long-term studies may be required. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation)

A Prospective Study of Venous Thromboembolic Prophylaxis Using Foot Pumps Following Total Knee Replacement in a Chinese Population
Conclusion The rate of proximal DVT after TKR was low (4.5%) without pharmacological prophylaxis. We advise against the use of pharmacological prophylaxis in Chinese population for TKRs because of the low risk of proximal DVT and its possible bleeding complications. Foot pump did not lower the rate of DVTfurther, and its use for DVT prophylaxis in TKR is not necessary. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation)

Surgical Management of Calcaneal Malunion
Publication date: June 2013 Source:Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation, Volume 17, Issue 1 Author(s): Guang-Rong Yu , Xiao Yu Calcaneal malunion is a common complication after conservative treatment or incorrect surgical treatment of calcaneal fracture. The typical pathoanatomies of calcaneal malunion are subtalar joint incongruity, loss of calcaneal height, arch collapse, varus or valgus deformity of the calcaneus, heel widening and so on. Calcaneal malunion often needs to be treated surgically. The classification of calcaneal malunion and the detailed clinical and radiographical assessment play impor...
