Acquired Manus Valgus: A Difficult Problem with a Simple Solution
We report a case of acquired manus valgus treated by centralisation of the ulna on the wrist. At the 2-year follow-up, the patient had a functional, stable, and cosmetically acceptable wrist, with radiographic evidence of ulnocarpal fusion. It is an easy to perform, cost-effective surgery. Pseudoaneurysm of the Popliteal Artery After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction Surgery: A Case Report and Literature Review
We describe the case of a 28-year-old male patient who presented with a popliteal artery pseudoaneurysm 8 days after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with symptoms of a delayed onset of painful calf swelling and compartment syndrome. Subsequent investigations and findings during surgery confirmed a punctured popliteal artery which had resulted in a leaking pseudoaneurysm. Compressive Thoracic Myelopathy Caused by Combined Ossification of the Posterior Longitudinal Ligament and Ossification of the Ligamentum Flavum: A Report of Four Cases and a Literature Review
We describe here the rare condition of compressive thoracic myelopathy and its management in four patients with combined thoracic ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament and ossification of the ligamentum flavum. One of the four patients underwent decompressive laminectomies only, whereas the other three patients had posterolateral fusion with posterior instrumentation (pedicle screws and rods system) in addition to decompressive laminectomies. All four patients developed transient complete paraplegia after surgery. The three patients who received decompressive laminectomies and posterior instrumentation with p...

Post-traumatic Perineal Pubic Rami Protrusion: A Simple Surgical Management
Publication date: June 2014 Source:Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation, Volume 18, Issue 1 Author(s): Voon Victor , Arshad Homa , Davis Ben Although pubic ramus fractures are common, they usually heal without surgical intervention and result in little long-term disability. We herein present two cases of symptomatic malunion of pubic rami fracture, which was successfully treated with a simple and safe surgical technique. The patients' local symptoms resolved afterwards. Revision Total Hip Arthroplasty Complicated by Metastatic Malignant Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumour
We present a case of a 74-year-old female with an infected Austin Moore prosthesis, requiring a two-stage revision total hip arthroplasty. Within 2 years postoperatively, erosion of the lesser trochanter was noted. Further revision surgery was performed with the insertion of a cement spacer. Despite the expectation of an infected prosthesis, intraoperative frozen section showed sarcoma and the final pathology was metastasis of a recurrent gastrointestinal stromal tumour (GIST). Metastatic GIST to total hip prosthesis had not been reported previously and this case illustrates how intraoperative frozen section can aid diagno...

Clinical Outcome and Complications of Transpedicular Closing-wedge Osteotomy for Correction of Deformity in Ankylosing Spondylitis in a Regional Hospital
Conclusion Despite transpedicular closing-wedge osteotomy being a major operation that is not without complications, most of our patients had good clinical results and subjective satisfaction. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation)

Symptomatic Thromboembolism as an Uncommon Postoperative Complication in Young Patients with Spinal Deformity
Conclusion Despite the rarity of thromboembolism after surgery for major spinal deformities in young patients, the possibility still exists, and patients with a positive history of anterior spinal surgery or poor posturing are probably more susceptible. A Study of the Predictive Value of the Modified Tokuhashi Score in Metastatic Spinal Tumour Causing Cord Compression in a Southern Chinese Population
Conclusion The modified Tokuhashi score was statistically correlated to the overall survival of MSCC patients in a Southern Chinese population. The type of primary cancer, visceral metastasis, and the general condition were statistically significant survival factors. We recommend weighting a higher score for NPC in the modified Tokuhashi scoring system in view of its favourable prognosis. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation)

Assessing Regeneration of Mechanoreceptors in Human Hip Pseudocapsule After Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty
Conclusion Our study concludes that if a partial capsulectomy is performed during primary THR, the replaced pseudocapsule will not have any active neurophysiological role in the hip. In this context, we recommend the preservation of hip joint capsule and an anatomical repair at the time of primary THR. Preservation of neurophysiologically viable tissue has been shown to reduce dislocation and may lead to better functional recovery. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation)

Bicipitoradial Bursitis: A Review of Clinical Presentation and Treatment
Publication date: June 2014 Source:Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation, Volume 18, Issue 1 Author(s): Tsz-Lung Choi , Tun-Hing Lui The bicipitoradial bursa lies at the insertion of the biceps tendon on the radial tuberosity. It is an unusual site for chronic bursitis and most often results from repetitive mechanical trauma or overuse. Other causes include tuberculosis, immunological complications of rheumatological disease and synovial chondromatosis. Accurate diagnosis requires imaging studies and sometimes histological study. It can be treated conservatively with aspiration and steroid injection. Sur...

Bone Mineral Density and Biochemical Markers of Bone Turnover During the First Year of Injury in Patients with Spinal Cord Injury
Conclusion There was a marked decrease in BMD in metaphyseal sites than below the neurological deficit level with maximum decrease at the proximal tibia during the 1st year of SCI. Although the markers of osteoblastic activity did not show much change, the decrease in BMD was influenced by the neurological recovery after SCI. Ossified Thoracic Spinal Meningioma with Lamellar Bone Formation presented with Paraparesis 胸椎脊膜瘤硬化板層骨形成伴隨下肢輕癱
We report a rare case of ossified spinal meningioma. A 64-year-old lady presented with spontaneous onset of myelopathic symptoms for 1 year. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) preoperatively showed a crescentic calcification, which represents an ossified/calcified component of the intradural extramedullary meningioma. We were able to resect the meningioma successfully with T8–T10-level laminectomy. Postoperatively, there was a significant improvement on the myelopathic symptoms.
