Bilateral Simultaneous Neck of Femur Fractures Arising from a Simple Mechanical Fall —A Case Report for Guidance on Safe Surgical Management
We present the case of a 73-year-old lady with metastatic colon cancer who presented with acute bilateral neck of femur fractures following a simple fall. Following a comprehensive discussion with anaesthetic and surgical staff, and in conjunction with the patient, a decision was made to perform simultaneous bilateral cemented stem hip hemiarthroplasties. There were no perioperative complications, and the patient made a positive recovery, being transferred to a rehabilitation institute 3 days after the surgery. Two weeks later, she was discharged home to her family. We have demonstrated that this rare injury can be safely...

Incidence of Deep Vein Thrombosis and Its Natural History Following Unilateral Primary Total Knee Replacement in Local Chinese Patients—A Prospective Study
Conclusion This prospective study showed that the incidence of DVT after unilateral primary TKR in Hong Kong Chinese patient was high. However, most of them are distal to popliteal vein with low risk of proximal migration. More than half of them resolved at about two months after the operation. Are the Current Size Options of Glenoid Baseplates for Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty Sufficient for our Local Population?
Conclusion Although there are only limited size options available for the glenoid baseplate in RSA, from our data, it should be able to cover most patients in our local population. However, surgeons should exercise special care when contemplating performing reverse shoulder replacement for small size females in our local population. Trial Without a Catheter Programme Improves Urological Management for Retention of Urine After Hip Fracture Surgery
Conclusion The TWOC program provides structured and standardized urological management for patients suffered from AROU after geriatric hip fracture surgeries. To reiterate, indwelling urethral catheters must not be placed permanently without carrying out urological assessment in patients with geriatric hip fractures. Experience with the Distally Based Sural Neurocutaneous Flap for Ankle and Heel Wounds
Conclusion Sural neurocutaneous flap is a reliable flap design with constant vascular anatomy. There is minimal donor site morbidity, and no major vessels are sacrificed. It provides a durable, pain-free, functionally and aesthetically satisfying coverage for ankle and heel wounds. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation)

Interprosthetic Fracture of Distal Femur Around Total Knee Replacement with Pre-Existing Dynamic Condylar Screw
Publication date: December 2016 Source:Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation, Volume 21 Author(s): Chi Kin Lau, Hang Cheong Cheng, Hon Shuen Ho Treatment of interprosthetic fracture of distal femur around total knee replacement is difficult. Pre-existing hip implants further increase the technical challenges. In this case report, we present an 85-year-old patient who suffered from a displaced distal femur fracture with a pre-existing dynamic condylar screw and total knee replacement. Internal fixation with distal femur locking plate and incorporation of the locking plate with the pre-existing dynamic...

Hip Arthroplasty for Treatment of Atypical Femoral Fracture with Pre-existing Hip Osteoarthritis
Publication date: December 2016 Source:Journal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation, Volume 21 Author(s): Dennis K.H. Yee, H.C. Cheng A 72-year-old woman with bilateral hip dysplasia sustained atypical femoral fracture of the left subtrochanteric region. She underwent left total hip replacement with a long extensively porous coated femoral stem. The fracture healed with incorporation of the strut allograft after 8 months. A painful horizontal radiolucent line at the tip of the femoral stem was noted after 4 years, with resolution of symptoms after a period of protected weight bearing. We believe that total ...
