In-office dental bleaching with light vs. without light: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion Without considering variations in the protocols, the activation of in-office bleaching gel with light does not seem to improve color change or affect tooth sensitivity, regardless of the hydrogen peroxide concentration. (PROSPERO − CRD42016037630). Clinical Relevance Although it is commercially claimed that in-office bleaching associated with light improves and accelerates color change, this study did not confirm this belief for in-office bleaching gels with either high or low levels of hydrogen peroxide. Effect of dentin hypersensitivity treatment on oral health related quality of life — A systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions The studies indicated decreasing of DH and improving of OHRQoL after DH treatment, although, they presented low to moderate methodological quality. Clinical significance The Oral Health Relate Quality of Life of whom complaint of DH can be improved after DH treatment. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

Complete rehabilitation of compromised full dentitions with adhesively bonded all-ceramic single-tooth restorations: long-term outcome in patients with and without amelogenesis imperfecta
Conclusion Adhesively bonded single-tooth restorations provided a high clinical quality in the long-run. However, while the survival and success was excellent in AI patients, restorations in non-AI patients were affected by a higher complication rate, likely related to a higher risk profile due to a history of bruxism and tooth wear. A retrospective clinical study on the longevity of posterior Class II cast gold inlays/onlays
Conclusion The present retrospective clinical study demonstrated an acceptable annual failure rate for Class II cast gold inlays. Clinical Significance All dental restorations have a limited lifespan and will eventually need to be repaired or replaced. It is important to have in mind that the longevity of gold restorations have not been shown to be superior to that of resin composite, which should still be the first material of choice. However, gold inlays could be considered when the right indications are present. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

A new synthetic granular calcium phosphate compound induces new bone in a sinus lift rabbit model
Conclusion CPC induced similar amount of bone as bovine mineral and both materials induced more bone than HABP·CaP hydrogel. Clinical Significance The CPC is suggested as a synthetic alternative for augmentations in the maxillofacial area. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

Near infrared transillumination compared with radiography to detect and monitor proximal caries: a clinical retrospective study
Conclusion This study shows that DC is as reliable as BW to detect proximal dentin lesions. DC detects proximal enamel lesions at an earlier stage than BW. DC enables clinicians to differentiate lesions limited to the enamel from lesions that have reached the enamel dentin junction. Regular monitoring with DC should help provide individualized preventive measures and early non-invasive caries management. Clinical significance The early detection of enamel lesions with near infrared transillumination can help clinicians undertake early non invasive treatments to prevent or slow down the progression of initial proximal lesi...

Objective and subjective aesthetic performance of icon ® treatment for enamel hypomineralization lesions in young adolescents: A retrospective single center study
Conclusions On the basis of the present study results, the aesthetic outcome of resin infiltration proved to be highly effective, both with visual qualitative and spectrophotometric quantitative assessment. Clinical relevance statement Hypomineralized enamel colour abnormalities affect patients’ quality of life, therefore tissue preservative cosmetic treatments are requested. An evaluation method of resin infiltration clinical outcome by visual evaluation and spectrophotometry is proposed. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

Experimental use of an acrolein-based primer as collagen cross-linker for dentine bonding
Conclusion Dentine collagen cross-linking produced by an ACR-based primer increases the longevity of resin-dentine bonds by reinforcement of the adhesive interface and reduction of dentine MMP activities. Further studies are required to evaluate the potential in vivo and in vivo cytotoxicity of ACR. Clinical significance The acrolein-based primer is a potentially useful clinical bonding tool because it demonstrates good collagen cross-linking ability within a clinically-acceptable working time. Although a low ACR concentration was employed in the present study, the cytotoxicity of ACR should be tested prior to clinical us...

Higher experience of caries and lower income trajectory influence the quality of restorations: A multilevel analysis in a birth cohort
Conclusions These findings suggest that, although tooth-related variables have an important role in restoration longevity, patient-related factors, such as socioeconomic variables and untreated caries are also associated with failure and should be taken into account when evaluating longevity of posterior restorations. Clinical significance This was the first study assessing long-term trajectory of untreated caries, showing an association between higher experience of caries during the life-course and unsatisfactory restorations. The findings suggest that individual related factors should be considered when planning treatme...

Evaluation of several clinical parameters after bleaching with hydrogen peroxide at different concentrations: A randomized clinical trial
Conclusion Treatment: with HP35% is more effective than HP15%, but generates a greater risk and intensity of TS. No inflammatory changes occurred despite the difference in the HP concentrations. Clinical significance Hydrogen peroxide at a lower concentration (e.g., 15%) should be considered a good treatment alternative for in-office bleaching because the higher concentration for in-office bleaching generates a greater risk and intensity of TS for patients. In vitro evaluation of a silica whitening toothpaste containing blue covarine on the colour of teeth containing anterior restoration materials
Conclusions Exaggerated treatment with a blue covarine containing toothpaste does not significantly affect the colour of the restoration or the restoration margin of the dental materials tested versus a water alone treatment. Clinical significance The silica-based blue covarine containing toothpaste does not permanently stain the restorative materials tested or their margins. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

In vitro and clinical evaluation of optical tooth whitening toothpastes
Conclusions Toothpastes containing blue covarine or a combination of blue covarine and FD&C Blue No. 1 gave a statistically significant improvement in tooth whiteness immediately after brushing in both in vitro and clinical studies. In addition, the toothpaste containing both blue covarine and FD&C Blue No. 1 gave statistically significant greater tooth whitening from baseline than the blue covarine containing toothpastes. Clinical significance The silica-based toothpastes containing blue covarine or a combination of blue covarine and FD&C Blue No. 1 evaluated in the current study gave significant ...

Tooth whitening evaluation of blue covarine containing toothpastes
Conclusions Toothpastes containing blue covarine gave a statistically significant reduction in tooth yellowness and improvement in tooth whiteness immediately after brushing in both in vitro and clinical studies. In addition, the higher concentration blue covarine toothpaste gave statistically significant greater tooth whitening benefits than the lower concentration blue covarine toothpaste. Clinical significance The silica-based toothpastes containing blue covarine evaluated in the current study gave tooth whitening benefits immediately after one brush. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)
