Prevalences of Peri-implantitis and Peri-Implant Mucositis: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusions Peri-implant diseases were prevalent and prevalence of peri-implantitis increased over time. Prevalences of peri-implantitis and peri-implant mucositis might not be highly associated since the prevalences were influenced by distinct variables. The results should be carefully interpreted because of data heterogeneity. Clinical significance Peri-implant diseases affect a significant number of dental implants and patients. It is important to understand the difficulties in diagnosis of these diseases and risk factors which may be modified to reduce the potential for disease occurrence or progression. Chronological grey scale changes in supporting alveolar bone by removable partial denture placement on patients with periodontal disease: A 6-month follow-up study using digital subtraction analysis
Conclusions The distal crestal bone of the abutment tooth transitorily reacts to mechanical stress due to the denture placement, while this does not suggest a detrimental effect within the limitation of the study design with a short-term observation period. Clinical significance The RPDs can be safely used for patients with periodontal diseases for at least 6 months if they are properly placed and maintained by professional care. A randomized controlled trial of home bleaching of tetracycline-stained teeth
Conclusion Over a three-month period, 6.0% hydrogen peroxide strip performed equally well as the 15% carbamide peroxide tray delivery system in TST. Clinical Significance Home bleaching systems produce noticeable tooth whitening effect in subjects with tetracycline-stained teeth. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

Non-carious cervical lesions imaged by focus variation microscopy
Conclusions FVM imaging shows microstructures that are consistent with simultaneous erosion and toothbrush abrasion. Saucer shaped lesions have a smooth featureless surface as well as craters and dimples that could be attributed to uneven acid attack. In wedge-shaped lesions, the presence of scratches and furrows could be attributed to mechanical forces such as tooth brush abrasion. The furrows and in-surface micro-factures of wedge shaped lesions suggest a possible role of tensile stresses but require further investigation. Clinical significance NCCLs present in two morphologies, either saucer-shaped or wedge-shaped. Ero...

OCT assessment of non-cavitated occlusal carious lesions by variation of incidence angle of probe light and refractive index matching
Conclusion Variation of AI improves the detectability of non-cavitated occlusal carious lesions. RIM can enhance signal-to-noise ratio. Clinical relevance OCT could provide additional diagnostic information in single and longitudinal assessments of occlusal carious lesions. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

Evaluation of the Cariogram for root caries prediction
Conclusion Within the limitations of this study, the Cariogram was clinically useful in identifying individuals with a high risk of developing root caries. Clinical significance Identification of a caries risk assessment tool which could reliably select high-risk individuals for root caries prevention strategies would maximise the cost effectiveness of professionally delivered prevention measures. No post-no core approach to restore severely damaged posterior teeth: An up to 10-year retrospective study of documented endocrown cases
Conclusions Endocrowns were shown to constitute a reliable approach to restore severely damaged molars and premolars, even in the presence of extensive coronal tissue loss or occlusal risk factors, such as bruxism or unfavorable occlusal relationships. Clinical significance Practitioners should consider the endocrown instead of the post and core approach to restore severely damaged non-vital posterior teeth. This minimally invasive solution reduces the risk of catastrophic failures and is easily performed. The use of IDS procedure and lithium-disilicate glass-ceramic as prosthesis material gave very good results. (Source:...

Social inequalities and dental caries in six-year-old children from the Netherlands
Conclusion Dental caries is more prevalent among six-year-old children with a low SEP, which is also visible at the district level. Maternal educational level is the most important indicator of SEP in the association with caries. Clinical Significance Our results should raise concerns about the existing social inequalities in dental caries and should encourage development of dental caries prevention strategies. New knowledge about the distribution of oral health inequalities between districts should be used to target the right audience for these strategies. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

The role of copper nanoparticles in an etch-and-rinse adhesive on antimicrobial activity, mechanical properties and the durability of resin-dentine interfaces
Conclusion Copper nanoparticles addition up to 0.5wt.% may provide antimicrobial properties to ER adhesives and prevent the degradation of the adhesive interface, without reducing the mechanical properties of the formulations. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

Longitudinal Investigation of Salivary Proteomic Profiles in the Development of Early Childhood Caries
Conclusions Our results indicate that peptidomic methods can be applied to help identify new candidate biomarkers for the occurrence and development of ECC. Clinical significance The change of salivary peptides may be an indicator of ECC, facilitating more effective measures to be taken in prevention of this disease. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

Assessment of enamel cracks at adhesive cavosurface margin using three-dimensional swept-source optical coherence tomography
Conclusion SS-OCT can be used to detect enamel cracks at the margins of composite restorations noninvasively. Presence and extent of enamel cracks depended on the enamel region and bonding protocol. Clinical significance SS-OCT can be used to detect enamel cracks at the margins of composite restorations noninvasively. Selective phosphoric acid etching of the enamel significantly increased the incidence of marginal cracks, especially in cervical preparation. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

The Effects of Water on Degradation of the Zirconia-Resin Bond
Conclusions Hydrolysis of the coordinate bond between MDP and ZrO2, rather than t → m phase transformation, weakens the bond integrity between MDP-conditioned Y-TZP and methacrylate resin. Clinical Significance: Hydrolysis of the coordinate bond between MDP and zirconia is responsible for deterioration of the integrity of the bond between MDP-conditioned Y-TZP and methacrylate resin. The role of social comparison in social judgments of dental appearance: An experimental study
Conclusion Social comparison has little impact on DISJ. However, there are differences in DISJs between individuals who seek treatment for their malocclusion versus the nonclinical population; the reason for this is unclear but does not appear to be the result of adoption of societal standards of beauty and instead suggests individual ranking of important ‘beauty areas’ may play a role. A randomized clinical trial of oral hygiene care programmes during stroke rehabilitation
Conclusions Although both oral hygiene care programmes were effective in terms of plaque and gingival bleeding control, the AOHCP was more effective than the COHCP in reducing dental plaque and gingival bleeding. Clinical Significance This study highlighted the value of oral hygiene programmes within stroke outpatient rehabilitation and provides evidence to advocate for the inclusion of oral hygiene care programmes within stroke outpatient rehabilitation for patients with normal cognitive abilities.
