Application of electrophoretic deposition to occlude dentinal tubules in vitro
Conclusions Synthesized MSNs were deposited into dentinal tubules by EPD treatment without compromising dentin bond strength. Clinical Significance Application of EPD is a new approach for occlusion of dentinal tubules and exhibits potential in the study of dentin hypersensitivity. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

Temperature-dependent erosivity of drinks in a model simulating oral fluid dynamics
Conclusions Not all investigated drinks showed a temperature-induced change in erosivity. Clinical Significance For some erosive beverages it can be recommended to keep the consummation temperature as low as possible to decrease the risk of erosive tooth substance loss. Long-term implant performance and patients ’ satisfaction in oligodontia
Conclusions Long-term survival, satisfaction and OHQoL results reveal that implant treatment is a predictable and satisfactory treatment modality for oligodontia, although peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis are common. Clinical Significance This study showed unique long-term (≥10 years) results about implant survival, peri-implant health, patients’ satisfaction and OHQoL in oligodontia patients rehabilitated with implant-based fixed prosthodontics. A randomised controlled study on the use of finishing and polishing systems on different resin composites using 3D contact optical profilometry and scanning electron microscopy
Conclusion For both composites, the Mylar-formed surfaces were smoothest. Where indicated clinically, finishing is better conducted using a tungsten carbide bur- rather than a diamond finishing bur. The Enhance PoGo system was found to produce a smoother surface finish than the Sof-Lex system. Clinical Significance If finishing and polishing is required the use a tungsten carbide finishing bur followed by Enhance PoGo polishing may be found to result in the smoothest surface finish. Quantitative discoloration assessment of peri-implant soft tissue around zirconia and other abutments with different colours: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions Zirconia abutments with white tint compared to grey titanium or golden abutments seem to restore a more appropriate colour match between peri-implant mucosa and natural teeth. Clinical significance Based on the present evidence, the “nature-like” zirconia abutments should be applied more often in the clinic. PROSPERO registration number CRD42017075930. Clinical performance of full rehabilitations with direct composite in severe tooth wear patients: 3.5 years results
Conclusions In patients with severe tooth wear direct composite resin restorations show annual failure rates of 94.8% for success and 99.3% for survival after full rehabilitations in an increased vertical dimension of occlusion after a period of 3.5 years. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

An in-situ pilot study to investigate the native clinical resistance of enamel to erosion
Conclusions The native resistance to erosion provided clinically is a combination of the ultrastructure of outer enamel, protection from the salivary pellicle and the overall effects of the oral environment. Clinical significance This study demonstrates that outer enamel is innately more resistant to erosion which is clinically relevant as once there has been structural breakdown at this level the effects of erosive wear will be accelerated. Periodontal status of tooth adjacent to implant with peri-implantitis
Conclusion The existence of peri-implantitis, the tooth location, and the examining site are significantly associated with the periodontal measurements of the remaining teeth. Clinical significance Peri-implant health is related to the periodontal health of the natural teeth close to the dental implant. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

The effect on dental enamel of the frequency of consumption of fluoridated milk with a cariogenic challenge in situ
Conclusions Drinking 200 ml of 5.0 ppm milk once per day every day protected enamel against further demineralisation whereas all three frequencies were effective in promoting remineralisation. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

Inhibitory effect of resin composite containing S-PRG filler on Streptococcus mutans glucose metabolism
Conclusions pH reduction by S. mutans acid production was inhibited on resin composite containing S-PRG fillers. Moreover, S. mutans glucose metabolism and acid production were inhibited in the presence of low concentrations of BO3 3− or F−. Clinical Significance BO3 3− or F− released from resin composite containing S-PRG fillers exhibits inhibitory effects on S. mutans metabolism at concentrations lower than those which inhibit bacterial growth. Replacing amalgam with a high-viscosity glass-ionomer in restoring primary teeth: A cost-effectiveness study in Brasilia, Brazil
Conclusion Replacing amalgam with a high-viscosity glass-ionomer as part of the ART method comes at a minimal increase in cost for governments. Increasing the number of restorations seems to diminish the cost burden. Clinical significance ART/HVGIC could be considered a viable alternative to amalgam in primary teeth. Caries arrest by topical fluorides in preschool children: 30-month results
Conclusion Over a 30-month period, annual applications of SDF solution is more effective than three weekly applications of NaF varnish or SDF solution at baseline in arresting active cavitated dentine caries lesions in primary teeth. Clinical significance As annual application of SDF solution was found to be more effective than 3 weekly applications of NaF varnish or SDF solution at baseline in arresting active cavitated dentine caries lesions, the former application protocol is preferred for young children who are available for regular caries arrest treatment. A randomised clinical evaluation of a fluoride mouthrinse and dentifrice in an in situ caries model
Conclusions The in situ caries model demonstrated that the fluoride mouthrinse is effective in promoting enamel caries lesion remineralisation and fluoridation whether used following a fluoride or non-fluoride dentifrice. Additive (potential) anti-caries benefits of a fluoride rinse after a fluoride dentifrice were confined to enhancements in lesion fluoridation (EFU). Clinical significance In conjunction with a fluoride dentifrice, fluoride mouthrinses enhance enamel fluoridation, which may be useful in caries prevention. (Source: Journal of Dentistry)

Associations of Types of Pain with Crack-Level, Tooth-Level and Patient-Level Characteristics in Posterior Teeth with Visible Cracks: Findings from the National Dental Practice-Based Research Network
Conclusions Although pain to cold was the most commonly noted pain associated with symptomatic cracked teeth, no patient-, tooth- or crack-level characteristic was significantly associated with pain to cold alone. Characteristics were only associated with pain on biting and/or spontaneous pain with or without pain to cold. Clinical significance Although often considered the most reliable diagnosis for a cracked tooth, pain on biting is not the most common symptom of a tooth with a visible crack, but rather pain to cold.
