Severe anaphylaxis reaction from dipyrone without a history of hypersensitivity. Case report
Conclusion Cases of severe hypersensitivity without antecedents can be present in patients, which makes it important to recognize this risk in our patients. (Source: Colombian Journal of Anesthesiology)

Anesthetic management of a schoolboy with uncorrected truncus arteriosus type I, and severe pulmonary hypertension undergoing repair of congenital dislocation of the knee. Case report
Conclusion The choice of the anesthetic technique should be a planned decision based on the cardiovascular pathophysiology of the truncus arteriosus, the level of pulmonary hypertension, and the surgical procedure to be performed. Patients with severe pulmonary hypertension are at increased risk of developing suprasystemic pulmonary pressures with considerable hemodynamic involvement. Consequently, the anesthetic technique chosen shall provide adequate anesthesia and ensure the least hemodynamic impact. Whenever possible, it is important to consider the peripheral nerve block as the first line approach for orthopedic surge...

Postoperative residual paralysis in patients aged over 65 years old at the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit
Conclusions The incidence of pre-extubation residual paralysis was lower than the figure published worldwide. Pharmacological reversal therapies were typically highly effective. (Source: Colombian Journal of Anesthesiology)

Anesthetic implications of Parry Romberg Syndrome: A case report
Conclusion The phenotypical characteristics of Parry Romberg Syndrome are severe facial hemiatrophy and craniofacial anomalies that require careful preoperative evaluation and management of a potentially difficult airway. Consequently, the use of video laryngoscopes is a first-line approach. Due to the syndrome's associated disorders, it is essential to maintain hemodynamic stability and prevent any potential seizures. (Source: Colombian Journal of Anesthesiology)

Case report: Opioid tolerance and hyperalgesia after abdominal injury
Conclusion Opioid tolerance and hyperalgesia are very difficult to manage and treatment is very complex in the absence of a functional gastrointestinal tract. Opioid rotation, ketamine and dexmedetomidine were the mainstays of treatment in this case. (Source: Colombian Journal of Anesthesiology)

Prophylactic percutaneous dilatational cricothyrotomy, prior to surgical tracheostomy: Case report
Conclusion Percutaneous dilational cricothyrotomy is a quick procedure and can become a valuable tool in securing the airway in cases of critical supraglottic obstruction in patients who will be taken to surgery and carry a risk of loss of permeability of the airway; in this article we make a report of a successful case of it utilization and we review the available evidence on the preventive use of cricothyrotomy and the outcomes in this context. The anaesthetist's role from the patient's perspective
Conclusions The results show that patient knowledge regarding anaesthesia and the role of the anaesthetist is scant, the level of education being the only variable that shows differences between the groups. We believe that anaesthetists and related scientific organizations must try to communicate more information about the speciality in order to help improve health education in the general population, and increase the knowledge about anaesthesiology. Etilefrine vs. phenylephrine for hypotension during spinal anesthesia for cesarean section: Multicenter, randomized, double blind controlled clinical trial
Conclusion Etilefrine and phenylephrine are equally effective for the treatment of hypotension during spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery. This study found no difference in the maternal or fetal outcomes. (Source: Colombian Journal of Anesthesiology)

Comments on “effective dose 50% (ED50) and effective dose 95% (ED95) of intrathecal bupivacaine in morbidly obese patients undergoing cesarean delivery”
Conclusion We analyzed the study using an acceptable methodological design and an intermediate risk of bias. The authors determined the ED50 to be 9.8mg for hyperbaric bupivacaine for cesarean delivery in morbidly obese parturients, similar to a previous study of non-obese parturients. Levobupivacaine or ropivacaine: A randomised double blind controlled trial using equipotent doses in spinal anaesthesia
Conclusion Levobupivacaine produces significantly longer duration of analgesia than ropivacaine when used in a ratio of 0.6:1. Efficacy, toxicity and haemodynamic profile make ropivacaine suitable agent for surgeries with low threshold for hypotension. (Source: Colombian Journal of Anesthesiology)

Case report: Subdural anesthesia in the obstetric patient
Conclusion Neuraxial anesthesia comprises a number of versatile and safe techniques, though not exempt from complications including subdural anesthesia. We should be aware of this possibility in our clinical practice, know the risk factors and the diagnostic criteria. (Source: Colombian Journal of Anesthesiology)
