The relationship between knowledge, health literacy and adherence among patients taking oral anticoagulants for stroke thromboprophylaxis in atrial fibrillation
ConclusionSignificant correlations between health literacy, OAC knowledge and adherence were observed, and these relationships should to be considered by health professionals responsible for monitoring patients who are prescribed anticoagulants. We also observed serious gaps in OAC knowledge. Interventions designed to optimize the outcomes of anticoagulant treatment need to address these factors. This article is protected by copyright. Long –term survival following the development of heart failure in an elderly hypertensive population
ConclusionsLong‐term survival in an elderly HF patients is poor, especially in men. Mortality in HF patients increased progressively with advancing age, while allocation to the ACE inhibitor‐based regimen for the initial trial significantly improved HF outcome. This article is protected by copyright. The effect of APOE, CETP, and PCSK9 polymorphisms on simvastatin response in Thai hypercholesterolemic patients
ConclusionAPOE4 carriers and the CETP TaqIB B2B2 genotype were associated with a decreased response, but PCSK9 474IV carriers tended to be associated with an increased response to simvastatin therapy in Thai hypercholesterolemic patients. This article is protected by copyright. Cognitive impairment and cardiovascular medication use: Results from Wave 1 of The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing
ConclusionWe found no evidence of an association between cardiovascular medication use and cognitive function. Future studies should investigate the prospective associations between cognition and use of cardiovascular medications using longitudinal data. This article is protected by copyright. The vasorelaxant effect of anti ‐diabetic drug nateglinide via activation of voltage‐dependent K+ channels in aortic smooth muscle
ConclusionNateglinide induced vasorelaxation via the activation of the Kv channel independent of other K+ channels, Ca2+ channels, intracellular Ca2+ ([Ca2+]i), and the endothelium. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. (Source: Cardiovascular Therapeutics)

Comparison of Anticoagulation Regimens for Pregnant Women with Prosthetic Heart Valves: A Meta ‐analysis of Prospective Studies
ConclusionsThe present meta‐analysis indicated that warfarin can provide better protection for the mother and the teratogenic effects may be overestimated. Heparin does not ensure better fetal outcomes as it is associated with severe adverse maternal outcomes, including mortality. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. Predictors of candesartan's effect on vascular reactivity in patients with coronary artery disease
ConclusionThe candesartan's effect on vascular reactivity is more pronounced in patients with more severe endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness. Poor responders on both FMD and PWV showed higher prevalence of previous myocardial infarction. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. (Source: Cardiovascular Therapeutics)

Cholinesterase inhibition reduces arrhythmias in asymptomatic Chagas disease
ConclusionAcute administration of pyridostigmine reduced the incidence of non‐sustained ventricular arrhythmias in patients with Chagas cardiac disease. Further studies that address the use of pyridostigmine by patients with Chagas cardiac disease under a more prolonged follow‐up are warranted. This article is protected by copyright. Pharmacogenomics of angiotensin receptor/neprilysin inhibitor and its long ‐term side effects
Summary The development of the promising agent sacubitril/valsartan, known as an angiotensin receptor blocker‐neprilysin inhibitor (ARNI), to improve heart failure (HF) management, may benefit morbidity, mortality, and readmission rates in patients with HF. The PARADIGM‐HF trial demonstrated that the ARNI can reduce morbidity and mortality in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), while ongoing PARAMOUNT and PARAGON‐HF trials determined whether the ARNI has morbidity and mortality benefits in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). However, the risk of long...

Endothelial damage effects of circulating microparticles from patients with stable angina are reduced by aspirin through ERK/p38 MAPKs pathways
ConclusionThese results indicate that the pro‐inflammatory, oxidative stress, procoagulant, and adhesion properties of MPs can be partly blocked by aspirin via the ERK‐NO/O2‐ and p38 ‐NF‐κB‐VCAM‐1 signal pathway, which clarified other functions beyond anti‐atherothrombotic of aspirin.
