Determining the true prevalence rate of Hepatitis-C in Pakistan
Conclusion Random samples from various geographical locations and population segments are required to determine a realistic Hepatitis-C prevalence in Pakistan; in the absence of such representati ve samples, novel analytical and modeling approaches may offer a viable alternative to determine the actual prevalence rate and help devise better public health policy to combat the disease. Intravenous immunoglobulin to treat hyperbilirubinemia in neonates with isolated glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency
Conclusion Intravenous immunoglobulin is an effective alternative to exchange transfusion in infants with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency hemolytic disease of the newborn. It is suggested that intravenous immunoglobulin may be beneficial as a prophylaxis for infants with hyperbilirubinemia. (Source: Australasian Medical Journal - AMJ)

The lowest dose of corticosteroids, which stops the episodes of PFAPA syndrome
Conclusion A dose of 0.5mg of betamethasone for children under 5 years of age and a dose of 1.0mg was prescribed for children>5, were effective for prompt resolution of PFAPA flares. We believe that as long as there is an effective lowest dose for treating PFAPA episodes, a great reduction of corticosteroid consumption will be exercisable globally. Methadone Maintenance Therapy (MMT) in Malaysia: An observational clinical study
Conclusion Gradual increments in methadone doses are relatively safe, but patients should be monitored daily. Doses should be increased to control withdrawal symptoms. Despite optimal dosing, cravings and drug-seeking behaviours may not be controlled in s ome patients, and an alternative to methadone may be an option. (Source: Australasian Medical Journal - AMJ)

In rats with the polycystic ovary syndrome, the monoaminergic activity in the celiac superior mesenteric ganglion depends on the vagal innervation
Conclusion Present result suggests that in rats with EV-induced PCOS the CSMG serves as communication channel between the vagus nerve and sympathetic innervation and this communication is related to the persistence of EV-induced PCOS. (Source: Australasian Medical Journal - AMJ)

The importance of American College of Radiologists ’ (ACR) compliance with respect to imaging and intervention protocol for reducing in-hospital mortality rate due to the aortic aneurysm
Conclusion The overall conc lusion is that there is negative relationship between ACR compliance level and in-hospital mortality rate of aortic aneurysm patients. Increasing levels of ACR compliance progressively decreased in-hospital mortality rates, although this relationship may not be cause-effect relationship. Policies fo r implementing full ACR compliance by hospitals may reduce in-hospital mortality rate of aneurysm patients significantly. (Source: Australasian Medical Journal - AMJ)

Ultrasound-guided percutaneous treatment of liver hydatid cysts using 3% hydrogen peroxide as a scolicidal agent
Conclusion PAIR therapy is a minimally invasive procedure for Gharbi type I-III hepatic hydatid cysts. It is a relatively safe procedure with a significant reduction in the duration of hospital stay. We believed that HP by itself plays a role in influencing the results and the outcomes of PAIR. (Source: Australasian Medical Journal - AMJ)

The dietary iron intake and iron status of female university students in Saudi Arabia
Conclusion Women of childbearing age face a higher iron deficiency risk, so there is a need to encourage dietary routes for treating or av oiding iron deficiency by increasing iron intake (particularly heme iron) and iron absorption enhancers such as vitamin C, and decreasing consumption of iron absorption inhibitors, e.g., phytate. Clinical profile of severe generalised tetanus patients
Conclusion Shorter the period of onset, more severe the disease, and high the mortality. Early mortality was attributed to auton omic dysfunction, while late mortality is attributed to secondary complications. These results matched with the existing literature and historical studies. Clinical, molecular imaging and biomarker concordance in the diagnosis of Alzheimer ’s disease and vascular dementia
Conclusion FDG PET brain findin gs were concordant with the CSF biomarkers (CSF Aβ42, Total tau and Tau/Aβ42 ratio) in Alzheimer’s disease and Haemostatic biomarkers (Plasma Fibrinogen and D dimer) in vascular dementia. In clinical and molecular imaging discordance, biomarkers help in making a reliable diagnosis which favours the clinical assessment. (Source: Australasian Medical Journal - AMJ)

A successful natural conception and childbirth after embolization of uterine arteriovenous malformation
Uterine AV malformation is dreadful condition due to vaginal bleeding. In past the only option was hysterectomy which leads to cessation of reproductive function. Here we are presenting a case where we preserved the reproductive function through Transarterial Embolization (TAE) technique. Post TAE patient resumed average flow regular menses, conceived naturally and delivered by elective caesarean section. (Source: Australasian Medical Journal - AMJ)
