Gender disparity of changes in heart rate during the six-minute walk test among patients with chronic obstructive airway disease
Conclusion In this study, distance, SPO2, resting heart rate and 1-minute heart rate variables were evaluated for assessing exercise capacity and then the amount of breathlessness and exercise in patients with COPD. (Source: Australasian Medical Journal - AMJ)

Is there a seasonal variation in HbA1c in Australia?
Conclusion Whereas in the Northern hemisphere the HbA1c does exhibit seasonal variation, this was not apparent in a temperate climate. Specific data are required during pregnancy. HbA1c could be considered as an alternative diagnostic test during pregnancy to potentially overcome the changes in prevalence with seasons with GTT. (Source: Australasian Medical Journal - AMJ)

Are Australian general practice patients appropriately screened for colorectal cancer? A cross-sectional study.
Conclusion CRC screening rates were higher than those reported by the NBCSP, however a significant proportion of participants remain under-screened. Over one-quarter of participan ts reporting colonoscopy in the past five years may have undergone unnecessary colonoscopy. These findings indicate that more needs to be done at a general practice level to facilitate risk-appropriate CRC screening. (Source: Australasian Medical Journal - AMJ)

Inhibition of cryoglobulin synthesis as an effective method of positive influence on spermogram indices
Conclusion The results of investigation indicate that a considerable reduction of cryoglobulinemia has a positive impact on spermatogenesis. Therefore, it is expe dient to include the method for detection of cryoglobulins into methodical recommendations/instructions for examination of patients with impairment of male fertility. Immunization with own leukocytes is recommended for inhibition of cryoglobulin synthesis. (Source: Australasian Medical Journal - AMJ)

Initial experience with contrast-enhanced ultrasonography in follow up assessment of small breast cancer treated by cryoablation
Conclusion Our findings of focal enhancement within ablated breast tissue in CEUS after CA is likely attributable to the much higher sensitivity of CEUS to that of other modalities to even slight vascularization. Further investigation in more patients is needed to clarify the utility of CEUS to detect residual or relapsed tumour after CA of small breast cancer. (Source: Australasian Medical Journal - AMJ)

Intra-luminal intestinal metastasis from malignant pleural mesothelioma
We present a case of a 73-year-old patient hospitalized for abdominal pain. Since a faecal occult blood test was positive, he underwent a colonoscopy identifying an intestinal adenocarcinoma. CT-scan showed a clinically asymptomatic right pleural tumour lesion histologically consistent with a MPM. A revision of the intestinal histology confirmed a metastasis from the MPM. The diagnosis of GI-MPM metastasis is challenging as it can be clinically and radiologically misdiagnosed. It should be considered in any patient with MPM history. Oral health status and behaviour in Jordanian adolescents aged 12 –18 years
Conclusion The results indicated that greater than 50 per cent of the examined students in this age group have caries in their teeth and gingivitis of mild to moderate severity. The oral hygiene measures were poor. It is important to enhance dental awareness and allow different preventive measures to be implemented. Furthermore, dental care should be more accessible for underprivileged school students. (Source: Australasian Medical Journal - AMJ)

Angle closure glaucoma secondary to psychotropic medications
Conclusion Screening patients for risk factors of angle closure and either having them formally assessed or choosing psychotropics with minimal anticholinergic effects may avoid inducing angle closure. (Source: Australasian Medical Journal - AMJ)

Analysis of failed rotator cuff repair – Retrospective survey of revisions after open rotator cuff repair
Conclusion To avoid operative revision after rotator cuff repair relevant copathologies of the shoulder have to be identified before or during operation and treated accordingly. Therefore, even during open rotator cuff repair, the surgeon should initially start with arthroscopy of the s houlder joint and subacromial space to recognise co-pathologies. Corneal cross-linking in a child with osteogenesis imperfecta syndrome and keratoconus
Cross-linking (CXL) is a well-established procedure in children with keratoconus (KC), but cases of CXL and osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) have not been published in the literature, despite the association between physiopathology of these diseases. This is the first case, to the best of our knowledge, of a young girl with both OI and KC that underwent a CXL treatment. In this case, CXL was performed at 6-years-old prior to an expected progression, without complications and probably stopped further keratoconus progression.
