Mammalian cell cultures as models for Mycobacterium tuberculosis –human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) interaction studies: A review
Publication date: Available online 26 July 2016 Source:Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine Author(s): Walter Chingwaru, Richard H. Glashoff, Jerneja Vidmar, Petrina Kapewangolo, Samantha L. Sampson Mycobacterium tuberculosis and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) co-infections have remained a major public health concern worldwide, particularly in Southern Africa. Yet our understanding of the molecular interactions between the pathogens has remained poor due to lack of suitable preclinical models for such studies. We reviewed the use, this far, of mammalian cell culture models in HIV–MTB interaction studies....

Prediction of promiscuous T-Cell epitopes in the Zika Virus polyprotein: An in silico approach
Conclusion The predicted conserved promiscuous T-cell epitopes examined in this study were reported for the first time and will contribute to the imminent design of Zika virus vaccine candidates, which will be able to induce a broad range of immune responses in a heterogeneous HLA population. However, our results can be verified and employed in future efficacious vaccine formulations only after successful experimental studies. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine)

Blastocystis in ulcerative colitis patients: genetic diversity and analysis of laboratory findings
Conclusions The present study confirms previous findings that have indicated the predominance of Blastocystis ST3 in humans and contributes additional evidence that suggests the low colonization of Blastocystis infection in ulcerative colitis patients during active stage. Multidrug resistance Acinetobacter species at the intensive care unit, Aseer Central Hospital, Saudi Arabia: a one year analysis
Conclusions Acinetobacter species including A. baumannii were found MDR (98.1%) according to the current Acinetobacter spp. antimicrobial categorization. Approximately half of these strains were A. baumannii. All Acinetobacter species were 100% sensitive to colistin and to some extent to trimethoprim + sulfamethoxazole (74.5%). ICU-acquired pneumonia among patients over 60 years of age who spend prolong times at artificial ventilations made up the majority of the cases. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine)

Beeswax: A minireview of its antimicrobial activity and its application in medicine
Publication date: Available online 26 July 2016 Source:Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine Author(s): Filippo Fratini, Giovanni Cilia, Barbara Turchi, Antonio Felicioli Beeswax is the substance that forms the structure of a honeycomb; the bees secrete wax to build the honeycombs where to store honey. Thanks to its rich hydrophobic protective properties, the beeswax is in fact present within cosmetics and body products. Also, beeswax is used in the food industry: as a film to wrap cheese for maturing or as a food additive (E901) to give shine to the products. Exactly as the honey which it contains, beeswa...

Introducing nitazoxanide as a promising alternative treatment for symptomatic to metronidazole-resistant giardiasis in clinical isolates
Conclusions Non-synonymous mutations of ferredoxin oxidoreductase gene reduce translational regulatory protein’s binding affinity which concludes reduction of ferredoxin expression and its activity. This leads to decrease in metronidazole drug delivery into the cells. Mutations in these isolates may lead to their resistance to metronidazole. No to low synonymous mutations of GlNR demonstrates that nitazoxanide can be prescribed as promising alternative treatment for symptomatic to metronidazole-resistant giardiasis in Iranian clinical isolates. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder after typhoon disaster and its correlation with platelet 5-HT concentrations
Conclusions The typhoon of Hainan province caused relatively large psychological problems to the disaster victims. Compared with normal control group, the platelet 5-HT levels of PTSD patients in the disaster areas are lower. It may be related to incidents exposure levels, cultural background, religious ideas, social concerns and psychological rescue of the residents who live in the disaster areas of Hainan.
