Epidemiological status of malaria in Iran, 2011 –2014
Conclusions Despite the recently declining trend in reported cases, the expansion of local transmission, especially in areas with cross-border travel, is very worrying. Improved malaria control interventions can be effective for elimination of malaria in Iran; these can include programs to control border travel and focused interventions for high incidence areas and high-risk groups such as rural residents, men, workers, and people < 35 years old. Acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholinesterase and paraoxonase 1 activities in rats treated with cannabis, tramadol or both
Conclusions These data suggest that cannabis resin exerts different effects on AChE and BChE activities which could contribute to the memory problems and the decline in cognitive function in chronic users. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine)

Epidemiology of polio virus infection in Pakistan and possible risk factors for its transmission
Publication date: Available online 24 October 2016 Source:Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine Author(s): Mahvish Kabir, Muhammad Sohail Afzal End Polio Pakistan program still has to overcome many hurdles; unfortunately on 8th February 2016 first polio case of the year has surfaced in Karachi. It seems that battle against polio demands little bit more conviction and motivation. WHO has set a goal of polio eradication in Pakistan till 2018, in order to evaluate the success of this target; polio eradication campaign in Pakistan has been analyzed in different perspectives. Our analysis indicated that major obstacles...

Protective effect of antioxidant on renal damage caused by Doxorubicin chemotherapy in mice with hepatic cancer
Conclusions Doxorubicin chemotherapy could lead to abnormal antioxidant capacity and renal function of tumor-bearing mice with hepatic cancer. TBHQ antioxidant intervention could effectively improve the antioxidant capacity of renal tissue and reduce the renal damage caused by doxorubicin to some extent. Clinical significance of dynamic detection for serum levels of MCP-1, TNF- α and IL-8 in patients with acute pancreatitis
Conclusions The dynamic changes of serum levels of MCP-1, TNF-α and IL-8 in patients with acute pancreatitis have their rules, and the change rule of MAP group was different with that of MSAP and SAP group, which showed the reference value for the diagnosis and illness severity evaluation of acute pancreatitis. Identification and analysis of a processed cytochrome P450 pseudogene of the disease vector Aedes aegypti
Conclusions A cytochrome P450 pseudogene, CYP4H44P was cloned from Ae. aegypti. The pseudogene is homologous with CYP4H28 alleles and seems to have recently diverged from this group. Isolating this pseudogene is an important step for evaluating its biological role in the mosquito and for the evolutionary analysis of Ae. aegypti CYPs. Worldwide risk factors in leishmaniasis
Publication date: Available online 29 August 2016 Source:Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine Author(s): A. Oryan, M. Akbari Recently, Vector-borne parasitic diseases such as leishmaniasis have been emerged or re-emerged in many geographical areas and resulted in global health and economic concerns that involve humans, domestic animals and wild life. The ecology and epidemiology of leishmaniasis are affected by the between host, reservoir and vector (human, animal and sandfly) and the environment. Important drivers for the emergence and spread of leishmaniasis include environmental factors such as alterations in ...

Arginine kinase in Toxocara canis: Exon –intron organization, functional analysis of site-directed mutants and evaluation of putative enzyme inhibitors
Conclusions Arginine kinase in T. canis has a seven-exon/six-intron gene structure. However, further studies are needed to identify a specific compound within the extract causing the inhibitory effect and also to determine the molecular mechanisms behind inhibition of arginine kinase in T. canis. Epidemiology of the outbreak, vectors and reservoirs of cutaneous leishmaniasis in Mali: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions Although descriptive, hospital-based and cross-sectional studies are robust enough to determine the extent of CL in Mali; future well-designed eco-epidemiological studies at a nationwide scale are needed to fully characterize CL epidemiology and risk factors in Mali. Effect of emodin on mobility signal transduction system of Gallbladder smooth muscle in Guinea pig with cholelithiasis
Conclusion The dysfunction of gallbladder contraction gives rise to the disorders of mobility signal transduction system in cholecyst smooth muscle cells, including low content of plasma CCK and [Ca2+]i in cholecyst cells, abnormal protein and mRNA of Gs, Gi and Cap. Emodin can enhance the contractibility of gallbladder and alleviate cholestasis by regulating plasma CCK levels, [Ca2+]i in cholecyst cells and the protein and mRNA of Gs, Gi and Cap.
