Zika virus is arriving at the American continent
Publication date: Available online 11 August 2016 Source:Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine Author(s): Saul Levy-Blitchtein, Juana del Valle-Mendoza Zika virus is the last arbovirosis arriving at the American continent and it is able to produce severe complications due to its neurotropism, such as microcephaly and it is also associated with Guillain-Barre syndrome. However, due to its neurotropism, it causes microcephaly and is associated with GBS. Presence of Aedes aegypti in many regions of Peru makes it easier to spread and it could be present in population, not being detected because there is a lack of rapi...

Antidotal effects of curcumin against neurotoxic agents: an updated review
This study found that CUR may be effective in nervous system problems induced by neurotoxic agents. However, due to the lack of information on human, more investigations are needed to determine the efficacy of CUR as an antidote matter. The current study aimed to critically review the recent literature data from 2014 to 2016 that regarding the therapeutic aspects of CUR versus neurotoxic agents-induced brain damage and its involved mechanisms. Meteorological influences on dengue transmission in Pakistan
Conclusions This study provides preliminary results of climate influences on dengue transmission in the Lahore District of Pakistan. An increasing dengue transmission risk accompanied by frequent climate changes should be noted. Integrating the influences of climate variability into disease prevention strategies should be considered by public health authorities. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine)

Effect and mechanism of Irbesartan on occurrence of ventricular arrhythmias in rats with myocardial ischemia through connexin43 (cx43)
Conclusions Irbesartan can inhibit the injury of H9c2 cardiomyocytes and the decreased expression of Cx43 that are induced by the ischemic myocardial infarction. Irbesartan can also improve the reconstruction of Cx43 in rats with ischemic myocardium to inhibit the myocardial infarction-induced arrhythmias. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine)

Arginine kinase in Toxocara canis: Exon-intron organization, functional analysis of site-directed mutants and evaluation of putative enzyme inhibitors
Conclusions Arginine kinase in T. canis has a seven-exon/six-intron gene structure. However, further studies are needed to identify a specific compound within the extract causing the inhibitory effect and also to determine the molecular mechanisms behind inhibition of arginine kinase in T. canis. Melaleuca quinquenervia (Cav.) S.T. Blake (Myrtales: Myrtaceae): natural alternative for mosquito control
Conclusions The adulticide activity was achieved with impregnated bottles at 40 and 50 mg/mL with the three mosquitoes species. In larvae, a growth inhibition was detected when exposed to sublethal doses. The results indicate that M. quinquinervia is a plant with promising environmentally sustainable source for vector control. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine)
