Fibroadenoma of ectopic breast tissue of the axilla in an adolescent girl: report of a rare entity
We present a case of a 13-year-old adolescent girl with a subcutaneous mass in the right axilla that was pathologically identical to fibroadenoma seen in the EBT. To our knowledge, this is the second youngest patient reported with axillary EBT, which should be considered as a part of the differential diagnosis for axillary masses. Infant with a foreign body bronchus: a fishy situation!
Foreign body aspiration (FBA) is a common cause of respiratory compromise in early childhood. Numerous unique foreign bodies in the tracheobronchial tree have been reported in the literature. FBA can result in a spectrum of presentations ranging from incidental to acutely life threatening. Described here is a case of inhalation of a live fish caught from a household aquarium by a 10-month-old infant. The infant presented to us with worsening respiratory distress, and an emergency diagnostic rigid bronchoscopy retrieved the fish and the baby survived. This instance highlights the importance of actively investigating pediatr...

The role of laparoscopy in the management of urachal anomalies in children
Conclusion: The pure laparoscopic approach to UAs appears safe and effective in most urachal remnants. Laparoscopic-assisted excision is an alternative approach that is easier to perform in infants. The decision to remove the UAs must be taken after an accurate informed consent of the parents, especially in cases of asymptomatic anomalies. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

Peritoneal drainage versus laparotomy in necrotizing enterocolitis: a continued asked question
Conclusion: Primary peritoneal drainage may be a reasonable line of treatment in neonates with NEC with good general condition, taking into consideration the possibility of traditional laparotomy if needed. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

Laparoscopic Thal versus laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication in children: comparative study regarding outcome and patient satisfaction
Conclusion: This study suggests that Thal fundoplication offers an effective alternative to Nissen fundoplication with apparently shorter duration of dysphagia and thus earlier return to the normal eating pattern. Level of evidence: 1b. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

The value of intra-abdominal pressure monitoring through transvesical route in the choice and outcome of management of congenital abdominal wall defects
Conclusion: Increased IAP secondary to forceful closure of the abdominal defect is associated with the occurrence of complications. IVP monitoring is feasible during closure of AWDs and a threshold of 20 cm H2O is appropriate to decide between primary and staged approach. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

Atypical back pain in a child: subcutaneous lumbar abscess associated with chickenpox
Back pain in children has numerous possible causes. Although chickenpox is an extremely common and contagious condition in the paediatric population, it can be associated with potentially life-threatening musculoskeletal complications. We discuss the extremely unusual case of a child with an extensive subcutaneous lumbar abcess who presented with severe back pain associated with active chickenpox infection. A rare case of juvenile-onset Behçet’s disease: Fournier’s gangrene followed by intestinal involvement
Behçet’s disease (BD) is a multisystemic, inflammatory disease with still unknown etiology and rarely seen in childhood. BD has worse prognosis in young, male patients. BD exacerbations may be triggered by viral, bacterial, and other undefined antigenic stimuli in genetically predisposed individuals. Fournier’s gangrene (FG) is a rapidly progressive, necrotizing fasciitis of the genital and perineal regions with high morbidity and mortality. FG is usually seen in immunocompromised patients and may be triggered by local factors such as trauma, trombosis, and vasculitis. Here, we present a adolescent, male patient with ...
