Evaluation of laparoscopic-assisted anorectoplasty for the management of intermediate and high anorectal malformations in boys: Mansoura experience
Conclusion Usage of LAARP to manage high and intermediate anorectal malformations in boys is feasible, allowing accurate rectal placement within the muscle complex and with good postoperative functional results. Residual urethral diverticulum occurred more frequently in patients with RBF. Incidence of mucosal prolapse is high after LAARP and should be avoided. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

Bipolar sealing devices versus endoscopic vascular staplers during laparoscopic splenectomy in children with benign hematological diseases
Conclusion LS has evolved over the last decade because of the advancements of BSDs and endoscopic staplers. According to our data the use of LigaSure reduces the overall operative time, operative blood loss, and associated complications compared with the use of staplers. Surgical management of congenital chylous ascites
The objective of this study was to present our experience regarding the diagnosis and therapeutic approach in cases of congenital chylous ascites that were surgically managed in our department in a 10-year period. Background Congenital chylous ascites is a rare condition that constitutes a challenge for physicians. This condition is often refractory to therapy, and it is responsible for serious malnutrition and immunological deficiency because of losses of proteins and lymphocytes. Patients and methods From 2007 to 2017, four cases of congenital chylous ascites were managed at our center. All cases were treated surgi...

A questionnaire-based comparative study of postoperative quality of life between laryngotracheal separation and tracheoesophageal diversion
Conclusion Postoperative complication rate was equivalent between groups, and the numbers of suctions and readmissions were decreased in the TED group. Therefore, tracheoesophageal anastomosis should be performed more commonly. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

Common tumour, uncommon presentation: massive lipoma in the retroperitoneum
Retroperitoneal masses are notoriously malignant. Although they are seen commonly in adults, they have been known to occur in children as well. A benign mass in the retroperitoneal location in children is uncommon. Here we describe the presentation and management of a rare benign retroperitoneal mass in a 12-year-old boy. Ileal blowout due to ileal atresia in a donor with twin-to-twin transfusion after fetoscopic laser surgery
In this report, we describe a case of intestinal injury in TTTS after fetoscopic laser ablation of the communicating vessels. Intestinal ischemic diseases have been reported in the recipient fetus after fetoscopic laser treatment in TTTS. In this report, we describe a unique case of ileal atresia in the donor twin. Nonconventional mesocaval prosthetic shunt interposition in refractory case with portal hypertension in a 10-kg female infant
Surgical treatment of portal hypertension in infants is challenging because of the high risk of shunt thrombosis. A 10-kg female infant underwent six failed procedures before being successfully treated by interposition of a 10-mm-diameter prosthetic graft between two 3-mm-diameter splanchnic veins and the inferior vena cava. Follow-up at 10 years demonstrates shunt patency and normal development without rebleeding. An aggressive surgical strategy is justified as long as even nonconventional techniques are available to prevent life-threatening complications of portal hypertension. Prosthetic grafts can be used when no autol...

An atypical adenomatoid odontogenic tumour in the mandible: a report of a paediatric case
An adenomatoid odontogenic tumour (AOT) is a rare odontogenic tumour that is often misdiagnosed as an odontogenic cyst. To acquire additional information about AOT, all reports regarding AOT that had been cited in ‘Pub Med’ since 1990 onwards were reviewed. AOT accounts for about 1–9% of all odontogenic tumours. It is predominantly found in young and female patients, is located more often in the maxilla, and in most cases is associated with an unerupted permanent tooth. The differential diagnosis between AOT and other odontogenic tumours such as ameloblastoma should be well made to avoid extensive ablative surgery. H...

The Penile Perception Score after distal hypospadias repair with tubularized incised plate and Mathieu
Conclusion TIP showed better PPS score compared with Mathieu in hypospadias repair. However, the results of this study were not statistically significant. PPS was a good scale to evaluate hypospadias repair after surgery. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

Decision-making in pediatric persistent Mullerian duct syndrome
We are reporting a case of an 18-month old male who presented with bilateral cryptorchidism. The patient underwent an explorative laparoscopy in which two gonads were identified in close proximity to the uterus and fallopian tubes. Biopsy of the gonads confirmed testicular tissue. Genetic analysis demonstrated a 46, XY male. Male external genitalia were appropriate for age with no evidence of female structures. Persistent Mullerian duct syndrome is extremely rare, with approximately 260 cases reported in the literature. Best practice for the extent of surgical management is still evolving as we gather data on long-term out...
