Neonatal umbilical inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor
Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors represent a tumor class of intermediate malignant potential predominantly seen in children and adolescents. Here is the first description of an inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor at the umbilicus of a neonate. In neonates the main sites of presentation are equally distributed between the thoracic and the abdominal region. In a third of the neonates the tumor is identified on an antenatal scan. The preferred treatment option is resection of the tumor. Spontaneous regression has been described. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

Can a foreign body migrate against natural body barriers?
We reported a case of a 4-year-old girl presenting with persistent chest pain for 1 month. The child described the pain as ‘stitching’ in nature localized on the left side of the sternum. The child presented with increased pain intensity and a new onset of fever and cough. No history of chocking or swallowing of FB and no signs of trauma or child abuse were noted. Chest radiography revealed a needle in the left side of the chest. Computed tomography scan and echocardiography were used to precisely localize the needle and exclude intracardiac extension. ECG showed elevated ST segment and cardiac enzymes were normal. Rem...

Outcome and renal function following salvage surgery for bilateral Wilms tumor: a single-institution experience
Conclusion: Children with BWT in the Indian subcontinent may be younger than those in the rest of the world. NSS yields good outcomes even for recurrences. Postoperative hypertension is transient in the majority of patients and correlated with improvement in CrCl. Prognosis is related to operability and syndromic association. Repair of low anorectal anomalies in female patients: risk factors for wound dehiscence
Conclusion: With regard to the wound complications following the repair of rectoperineal/vestibular fistulae in the female patients, none of the studied risk factors appear to have a significant effect on the outcome. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

Variables determining the success of ultrasound-guided hydrostatic reduction of intussusception in infants: a tertiary center experience
Conclusion: Several factors affect the result of hydrostatic reduction as total leukocytic count, CRP and duration of symptoms. In addition the size of the mass and the presence or absence of free peritoneal fluid affects the non operative management. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

Enteral reduction and oblique anastomosis: a novel technique in the treatment of small bowel atresia
Conclusion: Enteral reduction and oblique anastomosis is an easy and safe alternative to current surgical techniques used for the treatment of small intestinal atresia. No bowel resection is required while proximal bowel tapering is achieved. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

The conservative treatment of giant omphalocele by tanning with povidone iodine and aqueous 2% eosin solutions
Conclusion: The conservative treatment of giant omphalocele through the application of povidone iodine and aqueous eosine is effective and cost-effective. Magnetic resonance imaging of head and neck vascular anomalies: pearls and pitfalls
Conclusion: Vascular anomalies in the head and neck are mostly diagnosed on clinical basis; however, when the history is uncertain or the diagnosis is equivocal, a well-tailored MR examination can be a single valuable diagnostic tool providing structural and functional information. Associated patent urachus and patent omphalo–mesenteric duct in children: review of the literature
The objective of this article is to review the literature on a very rare association such as patent urachus and a patent omphalo–mesenteric duct in children. Partial or total failure of the obliteration of urachus gives rise to various anomalies, which can be diagnosed both in childhood and in adulthood. The omphalo–mesenteric duct remnants are the most common anomalies of the gastro-intestinal tract, often asymptomatic. The association of patent urachus and a patent omphalo–mesenteric duct in children is very rare. A computer-assisted (PubMed and Google Scholar) search of the pediatric literature to identify all cas...

Pitfalls in the management of infantile renal neoplasia
This article addresses questions posed by a renal mass in early infancy. Are changes required in the standard approach to a renal mass in this age group? Are diagnostic possibilities transformed enough to warrant a change of approach in a setting like this? What are the ‘benign’ lesions that require consideration? What is the physician’s liability in performing a nephrectomy in a patient with a problem like this? A review of the literature suggests that the vast majority of renal space occupying lesions in children of this age are still Wilms’ tumor. Unless diagnostic refinements reach a higher level, the present p...
