Management of congenital esophageal stenosis associated with esophageal atresia and its impact on postoperative esophageal stricture
Conclusion: One-third of the patients with significant stricture had CES; half of them were refractory to dilatation. Failure to have histology specimens and a high index of suspicion will make the incidence of this association a rarity. Diagnosis and management of CES with EA/TEF in the neonatal period is possible. Esophageal dilatation is the initial management for all cases with a low threshold for gastric fundoplication and gastrostomy. Resection is reserved for refractory stenosis. A day in the life of a paediatric surgeon: a PAPSA research study
Conclusion: The spectrum of paediatric surgery differs between countries, in particular between LMICs and HICs. Units in LMICs tend to have a greater number of admissions, including a wider variety of conditions and a higher proportion of emergency work. Paediatric surgery in LMICs faces many challenges. This highlights the importance of training specialist paediatric surgeons in these countries. Further data are still needed to fully outline the burden of disease in paediatric surgery, especially in LMICs. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

Recurrent poststernotomy mediastinitis due to histoplasmosis: the critical role of histopathology in surgical site infections
This report describes the first case of surgical site infection due to Histoplasma capsulatum. A 4 year-old presented with recurrent thoracotomy surgical site infection (SSI) requiring multiple debridements until the correct diagnosis was performed. This case illustrates the critical role of histopathology in early recognition of unusual pathogens causing SSIs. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

The value of computed tomography-urography in predicting the postoperative outcome of antenatally diagnosed pelviureteric junction obstruction
Conclusion: This is a preliminary report and the number of patients in our study is small to make definite conclusions, and further studies in this regard are important. We believe that renal parenchymal thickness as measured by means of preoperative CT-urography is an important predictor of the final outcome in patients with antenatally diagnosed hydronephrosis. Those who had a renal parenchymal thickness of 0.5 cm or less showed poor results on follow-up isotope scan compared with those who had a renal parenchymal thickness of more than 0.5 cm. Laparoscopically assisted anorectal pull-through for rectovestibular fistula
Conclusion: LAARP for the repair of RVF in girls is feasible, safe, and efficient. Long-term follow-up, which would remain unavailable for several years, is necessary. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

Port exteriorization appendectomy in children: an alternative to the conventional laparoscopic technique?
Conclusion: Port exteriorization appendectomy can be considered a safe and economical approach to perform pediatric appendectomy when conditions are favorable. It allows minimizing minimally invasive surgery even further, enabling a low level of invasiveness and resulting in postoperative pain. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

Prognostic capabilities and agreement of three different scores in diagnosing appendicitis in children from a developing setting
Conclusion: Our study shows a relatively poor overall performance of the scores in diagnosing appendicitis in a developing income setting. The applicability and prognostic usefulness of the PAS, the Alvarado score, and the modified Alvarado score in developing countries should be based on the stratification of appendicitis risk in the pediatric population. Pyloromyotomy for infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis using a modification of the Tan and Bianchi circumumbilical approach
Conclusion: Pyloromyotomy for infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis using the modified Tan and Bianchi technique is feasible and safe, having an accepted operative time, early initiation of postoperative feeding, and short hospital stay. This modification combines the advantage of circumumbilical incision with its better cosmetic results and right transverse upper abdominal approach with its easy and feasible access to the pyloric mass. Massive pyuria as an unusual presentation of giant infected urachal remnant in a child
We present the case of a 2.5-year-old girl who presented with abdominal pain, stranguria and massive pyuria in which a giant infected UR was found. The diagnosis was made using abdominal MRI. The child was subjected to laparoscopic-assisted drainage and had an uneventful postoperative course. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

Urethral mobilization and advancement for distal hypospadias
Conclusion: The urethral mobilization technique seems to be a good method for the repair of distal hypospadias with or without chordee with satisfactory cosmetic and functional results. The procedure has the advantage of avoiding the need for a second layer of tissue covering during repair. Moreover, there is no chance for the development of urethrocutaneous fistula, a major postoperative complication of other surgical techniques creating a neourethra. Postoperative management is simple and a brief hospital stay is sufficient. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)
