Meckel’s diverticulum: the lead point of intrauterine intussusception with subsequent intestinal atresia in a newborn
Intussusception is a known complication of Meckel’s diverticulum. However, intrauterine intussusception secondary to Meckel’s diverticulum has unknown incidence. Our case describes the medical and surgical management of a newborn with intrauterine intussusception of a Meckel’s diverticulum as a cause of the vascular malformation leading to ileal atresia. To our knowledge, this is the fifth case report of this phenomenon. In all cases, definitive management required exploratory laparotomy, bowel resection, and intestinal primary anastomosis. Nasogastric tube self-knotting
We report one of these rare complications, NGT knotting, in the pediatric population. Our patient was a 7-year-old boy, a known case of β-thalassemia, who underwent laparoscopic splenectomy. He experienced NGT knotting. NGT knotting detection needs a high index of suspicion; if not detected and managed in a proper way, it may lead to serious complications. Recommended techniques to avoid this complication are discussed in this article. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

Is the double cross flap technique the panacea for avoiding fistula formation in hypospadias surgery?
Conclusion: The double cross flap technique is not the panacea to prevent fistula formation in hypospadias surgery. Nevertheless, it offers an unquestionable advantage in terms of avoidance of fistula formation. The experience and skills of the surgeon performing urethroplasty remain the mainstay for best results. Suboptimal correction of low anorectal anomalies: a possible cause for intractable constipation in children
Conclusion: Among patients with low anorectal anomalies, suboptimal correction with residual anterior anal misplacement represents one correctable cause for persistence of constipation. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

Comparative study between purse–string suture and peritoneal disconnection with ligation techniques in the laparoscopic repair of inguinal hernia in infants and children
Conclusion: Laparoscopic hernia repair using the peritoneal closure following disconnection of the hernia sac is a safe and feasible method for hernial repair with minimal complications. It has a lower recurrence rate compared with the purse–string suturing alone, with no added risk for injury to the vas and vessels. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

Acquired air-filled lung cysts in childhood: pathogenesis of cysts of diverse etiologies; nuances of management
Conclusion: Our understanding of the clinicopathologic features and pathogenesis of many types of acquired PCs is incomplete. We propose that PC formation has a basis in destruction of the distal airways of the lung. Damaged tissue may act as a valve, and cause air-trapping, which leads to PC formation. Cysts arising after infarction or after trauma usually resolve on observation. Subpleural blebs may require excision because of nonresolution and recurrence of pneumothorax. A rare case of urethral triplication in association with tethered cord and vertebral anomalies
In this manuscript, we describe the case of a 5-year-old boy with Y triplication of the urethra in association with fatty filum terminale, tethered cord and vertebral anomalies. Unlike a Y duplication in which the penile meatus is hypoplastic, a Y triplication can have a penile meatus of adequate calibre, which can be used as a functional conduit. Most patients with urethral triplication have been found to have associated malformations. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of urethral triplication seen in association with fatty filum terminale, tethered cord and vertebral anomalies. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

Enterocutaneous fistula and internal hernia: unusual complications of peritoneal catheter migration into the ileum in a patient with ventriculoperitoneal shunt
We report, here, the first case seen in Nigeria involving a 3-year old boy, at our teaching hospital setting, with a history of a fall 18 months after VPS; this was followed by purulent, and, later, faeculent discharge from the right subcoastal region and abdominal wound. He underwent detailed neurological examination. Preoperative evaluation with a fistulogram (as a barium meal and follow-through because the superficial opening was not clearly visible to allow direct injection of contrast) showed a connection between the intestine and the skin over the shunt tunnel. He underwent a laparotomy with thorough antiseptic irrig...

Appendicular knot causing closed-loop obstruction, volvulus and strangulation of ileum in a 9-year-old: a case report
We present the case of a 9-year-old boy admitted with clinical features and radiological evidence of acute intestinal obstruction, which at laparotomy revealed an inflamed/gangrenous knotted appendix, ileal volvulus and strangulation. This is a ‘three in one’ case of acute abdomen associated with appendicoileal knotting. In the presence of viable ileum, a retrograde appendectomy was performed. Postoperative period and follow-up were uneventful. Appendicular knot/band syndrome should be considered a possible differential in acute intestinal obstruction. Computed tomographic scan as an investigative modality should be se...

Repair of oesophageal atresia with tracheo-oesophageal fistula associated with dextrocardia through right-sided thoracotomy approach
We report a neonate with long-gap OA with tracheo-oesophageal fistula (TOF), dextrocardia, and left-sided aortic arch who was successfully operated by using right thoracotomy. On the basis of our review of the literature and our experience from this case, we found that conventional right thoracotomy is appropriate for OA+ TOF associated with dextrocardia and left aortic arch, and left thoracotomy in dextrocardia and right aortic arch.
