Amustaline (S ‐303) treatment inactivates high levels of Chikungunya virus in red‐blood‐cell components
ConclusionChikungunya virus was previously shown to be inactivated by the PI technology using amotosalen and ultraviolet A light for the treatment of plasma and platelets. This new study demonstrates that S‐303/GSH can inactivate high titres of CHIKV in RBCs. (Source: Vox Sanguinis)

Donor understandings of blood and the body in relation to more frequent donation
ConclusionDespite some practical obstacles, increased donation frequency aligned with participant's ideas about bodily replenishment, the value of donation, and their identity as enduring blood donors. They therefore supported the idea of increasing frequency of donation, independently of the biomedical evidence from the trial itself. (Source: Vox Sanguinis)

Management of injured patients who were Jehovah's Witnesses, where blood transfusion may not be an option: a retrospective review
ConclusionsNumerous therapeutic strategies were employed inconsistently in this unique population of patients. Augmenting circulatory volume with an oxygen carrier acceptable to JW patients presents a novel approach to be considered in adjunct to other strategies. An international resource centre would assist clinicians faced with anaemia and BNAO. (Source: Vox Sanguinis)

A high plasma: red blood cell transfusion ratio during liver transplantation is associated with decreased blood utilization
ConclusionIn patients undergoing liver transplantation, the transfusion of plasma to RBC ratio ≥0·85 was associated with decreased need of RBC transfusions. (Source: Vox Sanguinis)
