Tophaceous hip gouty arthritis revealing asymptomatic axial gout
ConclusionThe axial and hip gouty arthritis are exceptionnel localisation. Radiographic imaging tools, mainly CT and MRI, may show the monosodium urate crystals and tophi that can contribute to bone and joint lesions of gout. They also allow the exclusion of other possible etiologies such as spondylodiscitis, infection, and neoplasia. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Interstitial lung disease in Egyptian patients with rheumatoid arthritis: Frequency, pattern and correlation with clinical manifestations and anti-citrullinated peptide antibodies level
ConclusionILD frequency has increased among RA patients due to improved detection by HRCT. High titer of ACPA was associated with extent and patterns of severity of ILD in RA patients. When high ACPA titer is associated with low CDAI score, physician could suspect lung involvement. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Juvenile lupus: Different clinical and serological presentations compared to adult lupus in Egypt
Conclusion: Juvenile SLE patients differ from adult SLE with more frequent major organs affection and significantly higher serological activity. Earlier and more careful assessment with strict management plan and follow-up are needed in juvenile SLE patients. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Role of ultrasound disease activity score in assessing inflammatory disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis patients
ConclusionUS DAS is a feasible scoring system for use in daily rheumatologic practice. US DAS may reflect disease activity and disability. The association between US DAS and USEC with radiologic scoring reflects their ability to detect structural joint damage. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Relation of anti-annexin V antibodies to disease manifestations and activity in Behҫet’s disease patients
ConclusionThere is a role of apoptosis in the pathogenesis of BD with special relation to the ocular, cutaneous and neurological manifestations and a possible link to the disease activity. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Expression of anti-heterogenous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (anti-hnRNP) in limited systemic sclerosis patients: Relation to radiographic findings of the hand
ConclusionJoint affection in SSc is more frequent than expected. Anti-hnRNP A1 and anti hnRNP A2 antigens may be useful markers for SSc patient although no significant relation was found with radiologic findings. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Pulmonary manifestations in Egyptian patients with systemic sclerosis
ConclusionILD is a frequent finding and PH is common in SSc patients especially the dcSSc subtypes. Disease duration, decline in FVC and increased skin thickness are associated with an increased risk of ILD. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Subclinical myocardial dysfunction by tissue Doppler echocardiography in primary antiphospholipid syndrome: Preliminary results
ConclusionThe present study demonstrated subclinical myocardial dysfunction using TDI in asymptomatic PAPS patients. TDI is non-invasive and cost effective. Prospective studies including a large number of participants in order to confirm these preliminary data are needed. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Anti-nucleosome antibodies in systemic lupus erythematosus patients: Relation to anti-double stranded deoxyribonucleic acid and disease activity
ConclusionAnti-NCS antibodies could play a role in the pathogenesis of SLE and is related to disease activity. Its association with anti-dsDNA antibodies and its presence in those with negative anti-ds DNA may aid in the diagnosis of SLE. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Serum leptin in systemic lupus erythematosus patients: Its correlation with disease activity and some disease parameters
ConclusionsSLE patients had elevated serum leptin levels. Elevated leptin levels correlated significantly with BMI and total cholesterol. Serum leptin levels showed non-significant correlations with SLEDAI nor did they differentiate between active and inactive SLE patients. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

CT-guided transforaminal epidural steroid injection and vertebral axial decompression in management of acute lumbar disc herniation
ConclusionAll treatment modalities showed a significant improvement in pain and function, however, the combined CT-TFESIs with regular VAX-D sessions was the most effective. Further studies with a larger sample size and a longer follow up are needed to support our findings. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)
