Progressive systemic sclerosis in Egyptian patients: Clinical characteristics and nail fold capillaroscopy
ConclusionAlmost all patients have ANA seropositivity, abnormal PFTs and abnormal nailfold capillaroscopy. Antitopoisomerase I antibody seropositivity, ILD, abnormal PFT, worsening skin score, late pattern of nailfold capillaroscopy are more common in dcSSc. Extensive clinical examination and investigations should be considered for early diagnosis and follow up of Egyptian SSc patients. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Urinary Tumor Necrosis Factor-Like Weak Inducer of Apoptosis (uTWEAK) as a biomarker for lupus nephritis activity and its correlation with histolopathological findings of renal biopsy
Conclusion: uTWEAK might clearly be a candidate marker for LN activity and may replace invasive renal biopsy, potentially serving as a helpful biomarker in the clinical follow-up. It could represent an interesting biological tool if the diagnosis of a flare is in doubt. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Power Doppler ultrasound in the evaluation of hand joints in rheumatoid arthritis patients in clinical remission: Association with composite index scores and functional status
ConclusionPower Doppler ultrasound can detect residual inflammation in RA patients in clinical remission and its scores were signficantly associated with the clinical disease activity index and functional status. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Assessment of inpatients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies: A 10-year single unit experience
ConclusionIIMs cause various complications and morbidities, with recurrent admissions due to disease flare-up and respiratory and infectious complications. Further prospective studies are recommended to elucidate the predisposing risk factors. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Assessment of long-term articular damage and function in rheumatoid arthritis patients
ConclusionAlthough, use of corticosteroids may help to control the disease activity, but it increases the risk of overall joint damage. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Soluble and membranous endothelial protein C receptor in systemic lupus erythematosus patients: Relation to nephritis
ConclusionsEPCR plays a role in the pathogenesis, is related to a bad prognosis and poor response to treatment in LN. mEPCR was not related to LN grading. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Pulmonary involvement in juvenile eosinophilic fasciitis: A case report
Conclusion: To the best of our knowledge this is the first reported co-existence of pediatric eosinophilic fasciitis with pulmonary affection. Systemic involvement should be screened in EF cases, as it may have consequences in the management and outcome. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Bilateral olecranon bursitis – A rare clinical presentation of gout
ConclusionThis is the first gout case initially presenting with bilateral olecranon bursitis. Bursal fluid analysis is important in such atypical presentation to look for MSU crystals and establish a diagnosis. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Dorsal costo-vertebral joint as a rare localization of Staphylococcus aureus sepsis
ConclusionSeptic arthritis of costovertebral joints should be considered when a patient presents with back pain, fever and elevated inflammatory markers. The diagnosis of septic arthritis of costovertebral joints remain a challenge to clinicians. CT is important to confirm a diagnosis and guide costovertebral biopsy and culture. Early and appropriate antibiotic therapy is important for a required outcome. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Influence of anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide on disease activity, structural severity, and bone loss in Moroccan women with rheumatoid arthritis
ConclusionsAnti-CCP antibodies are strongly predictive for the development of osteoporosis and erosions in Moroccan RA patients. They not only have a valuable role in the disease prognosis prediction but also may be a relevant determinant of bone loss in RA. The presence of these antibodies warrants special attention. Impact of hepatitis C virus infection on disease activity, functional status and ultrasonography findings in Egyptian rheumatoid arthritis patients
ConclusionConcomitant HCV infection in RA patients had an impact on disease activity. RA patients with concomitant HCV infection (RA/HCV) had higher DAS28 and MHAQ scores, with higher US7 synovitis scores compared to RA patients. US7 score is a valuable objective tool for the assessment of RA disease activity. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Assessment of fracture risk in a cohort of Egyptian female Systemic Lupus erythematosus patients
ConclusionTen-year risk of major and hip fractures was high in SLE patients. Increasing age, disease duration, high anti-DNA titres, higher disease activity and damage index were associated with a higher fracture risk. FRAX predicted fractures among SLE patients with normal and low bone mass not just those with frank osteoporosis. Physicians should be alerted to the higher risk of future fractures in SLE patients for periodic monitoring. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)
