Werner syndrome in two case reports: The wild and the tame systemic sclerosis mimics
ConclusionThis close mimic with systemic sclerosis might mask cases of Werner syndrome in developing countries where no genetic screening is readily available. The cases are illustrative for the confusion that may arise with systemic sclerosis and the difficulty in making the diagnosis in mild cases. Therefore, these descriptions are of clinical value to clinicians treating such patients. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Serum ferritin level as a marker of disease activity and renal involvement in Egyptian children with juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus
ConclusionSerum ferritin level can be considered a reliable biomarker for monitoring disease and renal activity in children with JSLE and LN. This may lead to improvement of management and consequently prognosis of JSLE patients as serum ferritin is an available and relatively cheap marker. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Assessment of lupus activity for Egyptian patients on regular hemodialysis, is there a need for prolonged immunosuppressive therapy?
ConclusionsLupus activity is not uncommon after starting hemodialysis but giving a prolonged immunosuppressive therapies is not necessary in all cases and should be given cautiously to avoid their side effects. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

An unusual presentation of eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis with a good response to rituximab
ConclusionThere is a necessity to keep an open eye for the diagnosis of EGPA in patients with eosinophilia even in the absence of asthma or other usual manifestations, as prompt therapy may be organ and life-saving. B cell therapy should be considered in patients resistant to conventional therapy and those in whom preservation of fertility is desired. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Autoimmune thyroid disease in Egyptian patients with rheumatoid arthritis
ConclusionAITD is frequent among patients with RA. Therefore, there is a need of screening of thyroid hormone dysfunction as well as of presence of ATPO and ATG antibodies as markers of AITD in RA patients particularly in young patients, females and those with high disease activity. CD4+Foxp3+ T cells, interleukin-35 (IL-35) and IL-10 in systemic lupus erythematosus patients: Relation to disease activity
ConclusionCD4+Foxp3+ T cells, IL-35 and IL-10 showed high sensitivity and specificity for detecting SLE activity and may be considered as potentially promising therapeutic targets. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Intracranial hypertension, nephritis and serositis complicating unexpected pregnancy in a lupus patient
Conclusion: Pregnant SLE cases presenting with IH, LN and serositis are challenging concerning the management of SLE activity. IH may be a sign of lupus activity and its resolution coincides with the control of the flare. Lower dose CsA is potentially effective in treating LN in pregnancy with no reported side effects. Platelet-rich plasma versus corticosteroid injections for carpal tunnel syndrome: Clinical and electrophysiological study
ConclusionsSingle local injection of the PRP proved to be an effective treatment choice for CTS. PRP therapy seemed to be superior to steroid, showing more improvement clinically as regard the pain and function and electrophysiologically as regard the distal sensory latency throughout the follow-up period. Infectious spondylodiscitis: A twenty-year experience from a single tertiary referral center
ConclusionSpondylodiscitis should be considered for all patients presenting with chronic LBP with systemic symptoms and evidence inflammation. MRI is required to establish a diagnosis and evaluate the spread of infection. CT-PDB is useful to identify the causative micro-organism before antibiotic administration. These findings could to pave the way for constructing national guidelines. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Potential value of serum progranulin as an activity biomarker in rheumatoid arthritis patients: Relation to musculoskeletal ultrasonographic evaluation
ConclusionSerum progranulin levels were higher in RA patients than age and sex matched controls. It significantly correlated with disease activity measured by DAS28, ESR and ultrasound activity measured by German US7 score. Serum progranulin levels may be a useful biomarker in RA disease. Ultrasound correlated with ESR and DAS28 in RA patients. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)
