Pulmonary manifestations in Egyptian patients with systemic sclerosis
ConclusionILD is a frequent finding and PH is common in SSc patients especially the dcSSc subtypes. Disease duration, decline in FVC and increased skin thickness are associated with an increased risk of ILD. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Subclinical myocardial dysfunction by tissue Doppler echocardiography in primary antiphospholipid syndrome: Preliminary results
ConclusionThe present study demonstrated subclinical myocardial dysfunction using TDI in asymptomatic PAPS patients. TDI is non-invasive and cost effective. Prospective studies including a large number of participants in order to confirm these preliminary data are needed. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Anti-nucleosome antibodies in systemic lupus erythematosus patients: Relation to anti-double stranded deoxyribonucleic acid and disease activity
ConclusionAnti-NCS antibodies could play a role in the pathogenesis of SLE and is related to disease activity. Its association with anti-dsDNA antibodies and its presence in those with negative anti-ds DNA may aid in the diagnosis of SLE. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Serum leptin in systemic lupus erythematosus patients: Its correlation with disease activity and some disease parameters
ConclusionsSLE patients had elevated serum leptin levels. Elevated leptin levels correlated significantly with BMI and total cholesterol. Serum leptin levels showed non-significant correlations with SLEDAI nor did they differentiate between active and inactive SLE patients. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Can rheumatoid arthritis affect sleep in Egyptian patients?
ConclusionA high frequency of sleep disturbances in RA patients was observed. Interplay of pain, fatigue, activity and disability may lead to poor sleep quality. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

The impact of metabolic syndrome on rheumatoid arthritis in a cohort of Egyptian patients
ConclusionMetS might have a negative impact on RA disease activity and functional status. Regular screening for MetS in RA patients is recommended. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

CT-guided transforaminal epidural steroid injection and vertebral axial decompression in management of acute lumbar disc herniation
ConclusionAll treatment modalities showed a significant improvement in pain and function, however, the combined CT-TFESIs with regular VAX-D sessions was the most effective. Further studies with a larger sample size and a longer follow up are needed to support our findings. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Analysis of clinical features and prognostic factors in Chinese patients with rheumatic diseases in an intensive care unit
ConclusionSLE was the most frequent cause of ICU admission; infections are the leading causes prompting admission. RDs patients often had multi-organ involvement with a high mortality rate. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Efficacy of ultrasonography-guided intra-articular steroid injection of the shoulder and excercising in patients with adhesive capsulitis: Glenohumeral versus subacromial approaches
ConclusionIntrarticular steroid injection of the shoulder joint followed by exercises in patients with adhesive capsulitis decreases pain, improves function and ROM with a more favorable response by the GH approach. Ultrasound-guided injection is an accurate, easy and cost-effective approach. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Role of cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) as a prognostic biomarker in follow-up of early rheumatoid arthritis patients: Correlation to musculoskeletal ultrasonographic findings
ConclusionsCOMP significantly correlated with disease activity in early RA and could be used as a marker of activity. It correlates significantly with synovial inflammation detected by power Doppler. COMP may reflect the outcome and could be used as a prognostic marker in RA patients. COMP did not significantly correlate with bone erosions. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)

Relation of plasma fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF-23) to radiographic severity in primary knee osteoarthritis patients
ConclusionsFGF-23 might be a potential biomarker for diagnosing and evaluating the onset and development of KOA and significantly correlated with the symptomatic and radiographic severity of the disease. Controlling KOA progression by inhibitors of FGF23 may be an issue of interest in further studies. (Source: The Egyptian Rheumatologist)
