Functional outcome of en bloc excision and custom prosthetic replacement for giant cell tumor of the distal radius
Conclusion
En bloc excision and custom prosthetic replacement for a Campanacci grade II/III GCT of the distal radius results in reasonable functional outcome at intermediate follow-up evaluation. Although average ROM of the ipsilateral wrist is poorer than some studies with other techniques, this method can be considered a reasonable option. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedic Science)

Cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the Japanese version of the Toronto Extremity Salvage Score (TESS) for patients with malignant musculoskeletal tumors in the lower extremities
Conclusions
Our study suggested that the Japanese version of the TESS is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring patient-reported functional outcome for patients with lower extremity sarcoma, and that it enables international comparisons of treatment results. The spatial association of each item demonstrated by using the AIC network also suggested that the underlying structure of the TESS reflected its coverage of a wide range of physical functions. Radiographic natural course of lumbar degenerative spondylolisthesis and its risk factors related to the progression and onset in a 15-year community-based cohort study: the Miyama study
Conclusions
We successfully elucidated the risk factors for the progression of DS in a general population. Moreover, the results of this study identified preventive factors as well as risk factors for slip progression. This study provides useful information for physicians treating DS. Hyperleptinemia suppresses aggravation of arthritis of collagen-antibody-induced arthritis in mice
Conclusion
Our finding suggests that hyperleptinemia suppress IL-6 responses and progression of joint inflammation. Leptin may play an anti-inflammatory role under hyperleptinemia. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedic Science)

Opportunities for improvement: anticoagulation in patients undergoing total knee or hip replacement
Conclusions
Use of pharmacological thromboprophylaxis after total knee or hip replacement was low, but increasing during the study period. This is probably due to increased availability of novel oral anticoagulants. Further initiatives to increase guideline recommended use of prophylactic anticoagulation after orthopaedic surgery are warranted. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedic Science)

Factors affecting the achievement of Japanese-style deep knee flexion after total knee arthroplasty using posterior-stabilized prosthesis with high-flex knee design
Conclusions
From the perspective of surgical factors, accurate implant positioning, particularly rotational alignment of the tibial component, and maintenance of a sufficient joint gap at 135º flexion appear to represent critical factors for achieving >145º of deep knee flexion after TKA.
