Hyperamylasemia and pancreatitis following posterior spinal surgery
ConclusionsIn our case series, intraoperative blood loss caused a rise in the serum amylase level following posterior spinal surgery. Thus, this level should be carefully monitored after spinal surgery with significant blood loss. Clinical symptoms of pancreatitis, such as abdominal pain and vomiting, should also be monitored following spinal surgery. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedic Science)

Functional outcome of en bloc excision and custom prosthetic replacement for giant cell tumor of the distal radius
ConclusionEn bloc excision and custom prosthetic replacement for a Campanacci grade II/III GCT of the distal radius results in reasonable functional outcome at intermediate follow-up evaluation. Although average ROM of the ipsilateral wrist is poorer than some studies with other techniques, this method can be considered a reasonable option. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedic Science)

Surgical reduction and ligament reconstruction for chronic dorsal dislocation of the lesser metatarsophalangeal joint associated with hallux valgus
ConclusionOur surgical procedure achieved significant correction of HV, a low rate of postoperative re-dislocation of the lesser MTP joints, and significant improvement of pain and function for symptomatic moderate-to-severe HV with dislocation of the lesser MTP joints.Level of evidenceLevel IV, retrospective case series. Comparison of tip apex distance and cut-out complications between helical blades and lag screws in intertrochanteric fractures among the elderly: a meta-analysis
ConclusionsNo difference in TAD values was found between blades and screws. In addition, the cut-out risk in the blade-design group was lower than that of the screw group. Therefore, TAD is not an accurate predictor of cut-out risk. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedic Science)

Clinical significance of high intramedullary signal on T2-weighted cervical flexion –extension magnetic resonance imaging in cervical myelopathy
Conclusions < /h3 > < p class= " a-plus-plus " > A preoperative high intramedullary signal on flexion MRI was associated with a poor surgical outcome, while no such association was seen with extension MRI. < /p > < /span > (Source: Journal of Orthopaedic Science)

Treatment of rheumatoid arthritis by molecular-targeted agents: efficacy and limitations
Abstract Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is characterized by chronic synovial inflammation due to unknown causes. Conventional synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (csDMARDs), biological DMARDs (bDMARDs), and tofacitinib, a targeted sDMARD, can be used to treat RA. In clinical trials, molecular-targeted therapies showed a significant reduction in RA symptoms and provided pain relief for patients with active RA. Even if patients did not show clinical improvement with combination therapy with a bDMARD and methotrexate (MTX), some patients showed a significant inhibition in structural damage. The clinic...

Pressure and tendon strain in the sixth extensor compartment of the wrist during simulated provocative maneuvers for diagnosing extensor carpi ulnaris tendinitis
Conclusions Both pressure and tendon strain increased most notably during the carpal supination test compared to the other maneuvers, which suggests that the carpal supination test is the most sensitive for the detection of ECU tendinitis. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedic Science)

Potential risk of excising the femoral insertion of the popliteus tendon during primary total knee arthroplasty: a biometric study
Conclusion During primary TKA, the femoral insertion of the popliteus tendon could be inevitably excised, regardless of technical problems. We demonstrate that the unique design of the LCS system preserves the popliteus tendon insertion. In addition, small knees and females may be risk factors for excision of the insertion. Population-based study of the association of osteoporosis and chronic musculoskeletal pain and locomotive syndrome: the Katashina study
Conclusions The %YAM of the SOS was associated with the population demonstrating locomotive dysfunction which was identified using the GLFS-25, and the severity of locomotive dysfunction evaluated by the GLFS-25 was found to correlate with the %YAM of the SOS. Furthermore, low back pain, shoulder pain and knee pain were found to be associated with the screening results for locomotive dysfunction by the GLFS-25. (Source: Journal of Orthopaedic Science)
