Dependence Scale for Alzheimer's Disease: Relationship With Other Clinical Indicators and Psychometric Properties
The objective of this cross-sectional and multicenter study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the Dependence Scale (DS) and to assess the relationship between dependence and clinical measures according to disease severity. Medical comorbidities, cognitive status and functional status, behavior, dependence, caregiver burden, and medical and social resources were assessed using standardized instruments. The sample consisted of 343 patients (32.1% mild, 36.7% moderate, and 31.2% severe), the mean age was 78.9 years (standard deviation = 7.4), and 67.0% were women. Criterion and construct va...

Semantic Memory Impairment for Biological and Man-Made Objects in Individuals With Amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment or Late-Life Depression
Conclusion: This study is the first to show that aMCI/D+ is associated with object-based semantic memory impairment. These results support the view that semantic deficits in aMCI are associated with concomitant depressive symptoms. However, depressive symptoms alone do not account exclusively for semantic impairment, since patients with LLD showed no semantic memory deficit. Clinicopathological Study of Patients With C9ORF72-Associated Frontotemporal Dementia Presenting With Delusions
Conclusion: C9ORF72 carriers with well-defined delusions likely associated with additional pathologies and parietal atrophy in neuroimaging. Patients presenting with middle-aged onset of delusions should be screened for C9ORF72 mutations, especially if family history and parkinsonism are present. Association Between Polymorphisms of the Insulin-Degrading Enzyme Gene and Late-Onset Alzheimer Disease
The insulin-degrading enzyme (IDE) gene is a strong positional and biological candidate for late-onset Alzheimer disease (LOAD) susceptibility, with recent studies independently demonstrating an association between IDE gene variants and LOAD. However, previous data have been controversial. To investigate the relationship between IDE gene polymorphisms and LOAD risk, a case–control association study of 406 Han Chinese participants in Xinjiang, China, was undertaken. The LOAD and control groups consisted of 202 and 204 participants, respectively. The single-nucleotide polymorphisms rs1887922 and rs1999764 of the IDE ge...

Common Polymorphisms in the GSK3{beta} Gene May Contribute to the Pathogenesis of Alzheimer Disease: A Meta-Analysis
Conclusion: Our findings suggest that there exists a significant association between GSK3β rs334558 T>C polymorphism and increased susceptibility of AD. Moreover, future updated studies with stratified case–control population are warranted for validation studies. (Source: Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry and Neurology)

Incidence of Tardive Dyskinesia in Older Adult Patients Treated With Olanzapine or Conventional Antipsychotics
Conclusion: The cumulative incidence of persistent TD was low and the risk of persistent TD did not differ significantly among predominantly older adult patients having dementia with acute psychosis or agitation treated with OLZ or CNV. (Source: Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry and Neurology)

The Synergistic Effects of Anxiety and Cerebral Hypoperfusion on Cognitive Dysfunction in Older Adults With Cardiovascular Disease
Conclusions: Higher anxiety may exacerbate the effects of cerebral hypoperfusion on cognitive impairment. Longitudinal studies are needed to confirm our findings and determine whether anxiety treatment improves neurocognitive outcomes in CVD. (Source: Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry and Neurology)

Correlation Between Impulsivity and Executive Function in Patients With Parkinson Disease Experiencing Depression and Anxiety Symptoms
Conclusions: The present results suggest that depression and anxiety were highly correlated to impulsivity but not to executive functions changes in these PD patients. (Source: Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry and Neurology)

Medial Temporal Lobe Atrophy and Depressive Symptoms in Elderly Patients With and Without Alzheimer Disease
Conclusion: Hippocampal atrophy was more pronounced among patients having SCI with depressive symptoms, while the medial temporal lobe was less atrophic in patients having AD with depressive symptoms than those without depressive symptoms. These findings suggest that different mechanisms underlie depression in older people with and without AD and may explain some of the inconsistent observations in previous studies.
