Misuse of prescription opioids among chronic pain patients suffering from anxiety: A cross-sectional analysis
In the past two decades, chronic pain has been increasingly treated with prescription opioids, particularly in developed countries. This has drawn public concern of possible risks associated with the potential misuse of prescriptions opioids. Previous research has indicated that this may be particularly true among individuals suffering from co-occurring psychiatric disorders. The present study sought to explore rates of misuse among chronic pain patients prescribed opioids, comparing individuals with and without anxiety. (Source: General Hospital Psychiatry)

Association of anxiety sensitivity-physical concerns and FVC with dyspnea severity in sarcoidosis
The purpose of the study was to evaluate the relationship of an objective functional lung parameter (FVC) and a subjective psychological factor (physical symptom concerns) with dyspnea in sarcoidosis. Acute psychological trauma in the critically ill: Patient and family perspectives
Post-intensive care syndrome (PICS), which encompasses profound psychological morbidity, affects many survivors of critical illness. We hypothesize that acute psychological stress during the intensive care unit (ICU) confinement likely contributes to PICS. In order to develop strategies that mitigate PICS associated psychological morbidity, it is paramount to first characterize acute ICU psychological stress and begin to understand its causative and protective factors. Suicidal ideation and suicidal self-directed violence following clinician-initiated prescription opioid discontinuation among long-term opioid users
Little is known about patient outcomes following discontinuation of opioid therapy, which may include suicidal ideation (SI) and suicidal self-directed violence (SSV). The purpose of this study was to examine correlates of SI and non-fatal SSV in a sample of patients discontinued from long-term opioid therapy (LTOT). (Source: General Hospital Psychiatry)

Exercise as antidepressant treatment: Time for the transition from trials to clinic?
The notion that exercise may hold promise as an intervention to treat mental health problems has a history of over 30years. As early as 1984, the National Institute of Mental Health organized a workshop entitled “Coping with mental stress: The potential and limits of exercise intervention” [1]. Since then, this notion has been controversial. In the early days, neither the amount nor the quality of the experimental evidence could withstand serious scrutiny. Hughes [2], for example, after finding no exper imental evidence supporting any benefits of exercise for depression, anxiety, or cognitive function concluded that ...

A stressful work environment is associated with tinnitus: Initial evidence from Asia
Tinnitus is common in psychosomatic clinics. Though the etiology of tinnitus is not yet fully understood, psychological stress has long been viewed as a risk factor [1,2]. Representing major sources of stress in adults' life, working environments have received special attention [3]. Notably, stressful work environments are mainly defined by three theory-based models, i.e., the job strain model (high job demand in combination with low job control), the effort-reward imbalance model (failed reciprocity between effort spent at work and reward received in return), and the model of organizational injustice (unfairness in terms ...
