Prazosin for treating sleep disturbances in adults with posttraumatic stress disorder: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a disorder with significant sleep morbidity and limited treatment options. Prazosin may constitute a novel management approach and has been tested recently in a number of trials. General Hospital Psychiatry: A Time of Transition
The inaugural issue of General Hospital Psychiatry was published in April of 1979 with an editorial from founding Editor-In-Chief, Dr. Don Lipsitt, entitled “Psychiatry and the General Hospital [1].” In this editorial, Dr. Lipsitt summarized the mission of the Journal in the following paragraph: “It is this physical, social, and psychological wholeness of the person that General Hospital Psychiatry will address, with a firm base in the role of psychiatry as taught, practiced, and researched in the general hospital-whether public, private, university, county, or community. Assessment of psychosocial factors and predictors of psychopathology in a sample of heart transplantation recipients: A prospective 12-month follow-up
In the last decades, researchers of heart transplantation (HT) programs have attempted to identify the existence of psychosocial factors that might influence the clinical outcome before and after the transplantation. The first objective of this study is the prospective description of changes in psychiatric and psychosocial factors in a sample of HT recipients, through a 12-month follow-up. Perceived support in parents of children with burns
Children sustaining burns that require treatment in a Burn center have a need for multiprofessional aftercare services over a prolonged time. So far there is little research into satisfaction with care and support after pediatric burns. Electroconvulsive therapy in the intensive care unit for the treatment of catatonia: a case series and review of the literature
Catatonia is an underdiagnosed syndrome that may occur in severely ill patients. The malignant subtype, consisting of motor symptoms, autonomic instability and fever, is associated with high mortality rates, though exact current mortality rates are unknown. This subtype requires a fast detection and treatment with high doses of a benzodiazepine or electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), preferably in an intensive care unit (ICU) setting.
