General Hospital Psychiatry: A Time of Transition

The inaugural issue of General Hospital Psychiatry was published in April of 1979 with an editorial from founding Editor-In-Chief, Dr. Don Lipsitt, entitled “Psychiatry and the General Hospital [1].” In this editorial, Dr. Lipsitt summarized the mission of the Journal in the following paragraph: “It is this physical, social, and psychological wholeness of the person that General Hospital Psychiatry will address, with a firm base in the role of psychiatry as taught, practiced, and researched in the general hospital-whether public, private, university, county, or community.
