A stressful work environment is associated with tinnitus: Initial evidence from Asia

Tinnitus is common in psychosomatic clinics. Though the etiology of tinnitus is not yet fully understood, psychological stress has long been viewed as a risk factor [1,2]. Representing major sources of stress in adults' life, working environments have received special attention [3]. Notably, stressful work environments are mainly defined by three theory-based models, i.e., the job strain model (high job demand in combination with low job control), the effort-reward imbalance model (failed reciprocity between effort spent at work and reward received in return), and the model of organizational injustice (unfairness in terms of procedures and social interactions) [3].
