Metastatic malignant gastrointestinal stromal tumor mimicking a right incarcerated inguinal hernia
Publication date: Available online 20 August 2014 Source:Formosan Journal of Surgery Author(s): Ping-Hung Liu , Wen-Ching Kung , Yu-Chiuan Wu , Shang-Tao Chien , Wen-Yen Chang , Chin-Wen Hsu Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common malignant mesenchymal neoplasms of the digestive tract. Although surgery yields a high cure rate for low-risk GISTs, it can seldom cure high-risk tumors because the postoperative recurrence rate of GISTs is typically high; however, the prognosis substantially improves after imatinib mesylate therapy. A case is reported of recurrent GIST presenting as an incarcerated ...

Richter's femoral hernia manifested by a long duration of progressive ileus
Publication date: Available online 23 September 2014 Source:Formosan Journal of Surgery Author(s): Chi-Hsiang Kang , Chung-Yu Tsai Richter's hernia is the protrusion and/or strangulation of part of the intestine's antimesenteric border through a rigid small defect in the abdominal wall. This hernia is difficult to diagnose because the signs and symptoms of development are innocuous. In most cases, because less than two-thirds of the circumference of the bowel wall is involved, the lumen of the intestine remains free; thus, features of intestinal obstruction are often absent. Here we report a case of strangulated Rich...

Intraluminal duodenal diverticulum in a child concomitant with an entrapped coin and a duodenal polyp
We present the report of an 8-year-old girl who had an entrapped coin in an IDD for 3 years that was associated with recurrent pancreatitis. Besides, a duodenoduodenal intussusception was found during the course of investigation and it seemed that a concomitant duodenal polyp contributed to the development of the intussusception. In view of the rarity of each of the aforementioned situations and the improbability of these conditions occurring together, this unusual and possibly unique case is therefore reported here.
