Orthopedia homeobox is preferentially expressed in typical carcinoids of the lung
CONCLUSIONSOTP is specific for LCs because well‐differentiated nonlung NETs are negative for OTP. OTP preferentially stains TCs over ACs. In well‐differentiated NETs, OTP staining is highly specific for LCs, and in combination with a low Ki‐67 index, it suggests a pulmonary TC. Cancer Cytopathol 2018. © 2018 American Cancer Society. Advanced practitioner in anatomic pathology: The time has come
Appropriately trained cytotechnologists have been shown to have the skills necessary to safely assist the pathologist in nontraditional tasks. These advanced‐level individuals may be necessary to stem the leakage of traditional pathology services to other specialties or even prevent them from not being done at all. The time has arrived to move this concept forward.See also pages 000‐000. (Source: Cancer Cytopathology)

The impact of noninvasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary ‐like nuclear features on the rate of malignancy for atypia of undetermined significance subcategories
CONCLUSIONSA subset of resected AUS nodules can be reclassified as NIFTP, and that significantly decreases the ROM, especially for AUS‐N and AUS‐F. Nonetheless, AUS‐N still harbors a substantially higher ROM than AUS‐F. Cancer Cytopathol 2018. © 2018 American Cancer Society. (Source: Cancer Cytopathology)

Use of the 22C3 anti –programmed death ligand 1 antibody to determine programmed death ligand 1 expression in cytology samples obtained from non–small cell lung cancer patients
CONCLUSIONSALS48 and BenchMark Ultra 22C3 antibody concentrate–based LDTs have been validated for PD‐L1 testing in cytology samples, and they will support reliable, high‐quality PD‐L1 testing across regions globally. SOX10/keratin dual ‐color immunohistochemistry: An effective first‐line test for the workup of epithelioid malignant neoplasms in FNA and small biopsy specimens
CONCLUSIONSSOX10/keratin dual‐color IHC appears to be an effective, sensitive, and specific test to distinguish between melanoma, sarcoma, and carcinoma. This approach can identify melanoma, prioritize additional studies, and limit the number of markers needed to workup an epithelioid malignant neoplasm, thereby potentially reducing costs and preserving valuable tissue for ancillary studies with which to guide therapy. Simultaneous detection of single ‐nucleotide variant, deletion/insertion, and fusion in lung and thyroid carcinoma using cytology specimen and an RNA‐based next‐generation sequencing assay
CONCLUSIONSCytology preparations can be a reliable source for the detection of both DNA and RNA aberrations. The ability to simultaneously detect multiple types of genomic variants is crucial for patients with advanced cancer and maximizes the usefulness of cytology specimens. Insulinoma ‐associated protein 1 is a sensitive and specific marker of neuroendocrine lung neoplasms in cytology specimens
CONCLUSIONSINSM1 can be used in cytopathology cell blocks, and it is sensitive and highly specific for neuroendocrine lung tumors. INSM1 staining in cytology cell blocks correlates well with surgical pathology specimens. Cancer Cytopathol 2018. © 2018 American Cancer Society. (Source: Cancer Cytopathology)
