Can the careHPV test performed in mobile units replace cytology for screening in rural and remote areas?
CONCLUSIONSThe careHPV test was demonstrated to be a feasible alternative to primary screening in low‐resource settings accessed through the use of mobile units. Cancer Cytopathol 2016. © 2016 American Cancer Society. (Source: Cancer Cytopathology)

High apoptotic index in urine cytology is associated with high‐grade urothelial carcinoma
CONCLUSIONSExcluding ileal conduit urine specimens, the finding of a high apoptotic index (score ≥ 2) with the presence of pyknosis or karyorrhexis in ≥10 per 10 high‐power fields in the urine cytology appears to be significantly associated with HGUC (P<.05). Diagnostic concordance of nonsmall cell lung carcinoma subtypes between biopsy and cytology specimens obtained during the same procedure
CONCLUSIONSSubtyping of NSCLC can be achieved in most cases (97%) by considering findings in both biopsy and cytology specimens, and concordance in subtyping between cytology and biopsy specimens can be reached in a high percentage of cases (89.2%). Fine‐needle aspiration of soft tissue perineurioma: A comparative analysis of cytomorphology and immunohistochemistry with benign and malignant mimics
CONCLUSIONSSTP, intramuscular/cellular myxoma, and LGFMS have significant cytomorphologic overlap. Immunohistochemical staining with EMA is not beneficial due to a lack of specificity. Negative MUC4 staining reliably excludes LGFMS. Therefore, a clinically meaningful approach to the FNA biopsy evaluation of a low‐grade myxoid spindle cell neoplasm is to provide a differential diagnosis and to exclude a low‐grade sarcoma. MicroRNA signatures in cytopathology: Are they ready for prime time?
In this issue of Cancer Cytopathology, Mancuso et al evaluate the use of a defined microRNA signature as a prognostic factor in small cell lung cancer. This editorial briefly comments on their article and shares views on the use of microRNA panels in contemporary practice in cytopathology.See also pages 000‐000. (Source: Cancer Cytopathology)

Digital holographic microscopy as screening tool for cervical cancer preliminary study
CONCLUSIONSThis preliminary study demonstrated for the first time that the DHM technique is suitable for the processing of gynecologic cervical samples. Nevertheless, DHM criteria and parameters could be better defined. Hopefully, holographic analysis will be performed automatically and will provide an instantaneous, cost‐effective diagnosis from a closed vial with the preservation of all cellular material. Clinical significance of atypical glandular cells in Pap tests: An analysis of more than 3000 cases at a large academic women's center
CONCLUSIONSAGC subtypes and ages significantly affect histological follow‐up results; 90.5% of cases with carcinoma on histologic follow‐up were either endometrial or metastatic carcinoma. This study supports the recommendation that women with AGC Pap test results should be followed up with both endocervical and endometrial sampling. A superior method for cell block preparation for fine‐needle aspiration biopsies

Cytologic features of angiosarcoma: A review of 26 cases diagnosed on FNA
CONCLUSIONSAngiosarcomas show a range of cytomorphologic features that make them potentially recognizable on cytology. Although vasoformative features are highly suggestive, they are not specific for angiosarcoma and may be seen in some nonvascular neoplasms. Immunohistochemistry and a high index of suspicion are required for an accurate diagnosis. Cancer Cytopathol 2016. © 2016 American Cancer Society. (Source: Cancer Cytopathology)

The cytomorphological features of low ‐grade urothelial neoplasms vary by specimen type
CONCLUSIONSApproximately 50% of UT specimens with LGUN on follow‐up demonstrated atypical features. Based on comparison with benign UW controls, TFs, cytoplasmic tails, nuclear eccentricity, and enlarged nuclei were more pronounced in neoplastic UW than VU specimens, suggesting that the method of urine specimen procurement affects the presence of certain low‐grade features. Comparison between cytospin and liquid ‐based cytology in urine specimens classified according to the Paris System for Reporting Urinary Cytology
CONCLUSIONSThe results of the current study demonstrated that according to the Paris System, there were no significant differences in sensitivity or specificity for the diagnosis of high‐grade urothelial carcinoma or AUC‐H between the 2 methods. Cases of AUC should be easy to recognize using Thin Prep rather than cytospin and only AUCs diagnosed with ThinPrep were found to be statistically linked to negative cases for carcinoma or with low‐grade urothelial carcinoma. Role of Epstein‐Barr virus status and immunophenotypic studies in the evaluation of exfoliative cytology specimens from patients with post‐transplant lymphoproliferative disorders
CONCLUSIONSAtypical lymphoid proliferations are common in exfoliative cytology specimens from patients with PTLDs, and they require ancillary studies at least including immunophenotyping and EBV evaluations for a definitive diagnosis.
