Anyone done FY1 in oncology?
Just wondering how people found it, useful? :) Need to send in application for foundation schools this week and as oncology was currently quite high on my list when thinking about the future I thought it may be worth getting some early experience in foundation years. I know it isn't essential and I would hopefully be able to see it in CT1/2 before committing to anything but thought a bit of experience beyond what I saw in Clinical rotation wouldn't go amiss. 'Education" section UCAS - information about UKCAT
I'm filling my UCAS form and thinking about including information about UKCAT test. Should I add the centre, where I've taken the test to the section Education? I read somewhere that there' s no need to include results form UKCAT test, the results will be sent by Pearson VUE directly to the chosen universities. Is it true or should I include my results in any section? (Source: New Media Medicine)

URGENT!! Doctor Interview
Hello, My name is Melissa, I'm a medical student at Nova Southeastern University. Im currently working on a research article and desperately need to interview a licensed practitioner, wether its a neurologist, endocrinologist , any field. I need the following questions answered: -Name and title of person being interviewed. -Describe a typical workday. -On average, how many patients do you see in a typical day? -How well did the education you received prepare you for this job? -How long did it take you to feel comfortable as a practitioner? -How important is medical terminology in your field? -If given a chance, would you...

Doctor's working time
Hello everyone, my girlfriend just started studying medicine, and she's enjoying it so far, but she has a dilemma concerning her future career - it seems to be very hard to combine a doctor's work with personal life. The widespread opinion is that doctors have to work for 60-70 hours a week, and this, to a person like her, who intends to have a family and children, is impossible to attain. The one question I have is - is this opinion true, or maybe it is true in general, but there are some specialities/career options which do not consume so much time and allow for a more liberal work-life balance? In other words, can bein...

Access to medicine after bad A-Level results.
When I say, 'bad A-Level results', I don't mean horribly bad. I mean, I did get into university to study psychology, but rejected the offers after deciding I wasn't giving up on my passion and wanted to pursue a career as a doctor. During my AS year of my a levels, I had various problems and didn't do so well, I continued into A2 anyway and managed to pull my grades to DDE from EUU in my AS year. I got offers from university for a foundation degree in psychology. I rejected the offers almost immediately as I realised I needed to try to pursue my dream in medicine. Now, I have read up on various different access courses,...

Best option nurse to medical school
Hay, I'm a Dutch nursing student, who wants to study medicine in the UK because I grew up there. Ever since I was a child, I have thought about studying medicine and becoming a doctor. But because of some things during secondary school, I haven't studied all of the subjects you need to get into med school. The subject that I studied weren't scienes but languages etc/ Anyway, now that I'm studying nursing and working alongside doctors, I have decided that medicine compels me more than nursing. But I know it isn't easy to get into medical school and I haven't got a clue what the best option would be, because there are so m...

Work experience letter
Dear All, I will be very grateful if someone can let me know what should I get it written on my 1 week shadowing experience to a surgeon/consultant in the hospital. I am literally following her or junior doctors who are working under her supervision everywhere. This includes morning case discussions, ward rounds, theaters, outpatient's clinic etc. I dont want generic letter but something personalized to my actual experience. Please give me some clue what I can politely ask her to write for me. PS: no doubt that a Thank You card and chocolates will be given to her on my last day. Thank you!!!! Regards (Source: New Media Medicine)

My insulin pump also malfunctioned meaning during the exam my blood sugars went extremely high and made me feel so unwell, i felt I could have done better, but has anyone got any advice as I haven't got an incident number :( (Source: New Media Medicine)
