Is the government killing the GEM programme
The distribution curves doesn't seem to have changed much between 2013 and 2014, however the cut off points seemed to jumped up exponentially So far for 2015 entry the cut off's are SGUL is a 62, while Nottingham are asking for 61 and 66 for 2.ii. Has the enthusiasm bubble surrounding the GEM programme finally burst: as the government funding hits hard this year, with places being cut in many of the GEM schools. It's kind of sad and a paradox that the government is calling for more doctors but cutting places. (Source: New Media Medicine)

Is medicine the career for me?
Hey everyone I was planning to study medicine, but didn't get in. So I went onto a computer science course, however, I dropped out as I disliked the course and the maths too.I am now on a gap year and unsure whether medicine is the right course for me and whether I should re-apply. Pros: I enjoy biology in general, and to some extent interested in body anatomy I am better in biology than in maths I like to say I am a medical student Cons : Medicine course is 5 years, which I feel is long, and in addition to that there are training years. I at times feel squeamish (I noticed this in biology dissection lessons in High ...

Hi. Has anyone been signed off the "Alternative Certificate of F2 Competencies" by undertaking an 1 year FY2 LAS jobs in an NHS trust? How difficult was it to get the form signed? Should I concentrate to get into specific specialties for my FY2 LAS in order to increase chances for getting the form signed? Thanks. (Source: New Media Medicine)

Grants for students studying medicine as a second degree
Hi everyone, I've just received a grant from the Leather Sellers Charity to put towards my tuition fees of £9,000 a year. As you know, graduates on 5 year courses do not qualify for a loan from student finance. I have managed to save up a big chunk of the £36K required to be able to study medicine (as the 5th year is paid for by the NHS) but this wasn't enough so I applied to this charity. If you are also struggling to make ends meet, then think about applying here: Educational Awards It won't cover the cost of the whole degree but they offer up to £4,000 a year which is huge really! They have actually asked m...
