FY at the Countess of Chester
Hi, I'm just in the middle of picking rotations for FY1, and I'm not really sure where to start. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on what jobs would be good to do in Chester and if there are any that I should avoid. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. F2 doctor feeling optimistic about the future..
Something happened recently that has changed my outlook. I have written about it on my blog: So I’ve been thinking, lots. Most of my blog is endless ranting and whinging about how awful life is as a doctor, and it’s true, it can be pretty shit. But take the recent picture of the A+E doctor grieving for a 19 yr old patient that died, it went viral and everyone suddenly seemed to empathise and appreciate what we have to go through as doctors. Death becomes so normal for us, upset, stress, grief, these all become normal parts of our day and we let them consume us, but to the point that we don’t realise what’s happening t...

Best structure for essay section. Please help!
Hi, I am sitting the GAMSAT Ireland on Saturday so would really like to get some opinions quickly! I sat the GAMSAT in September and achieved 65 on the essay section, so not a bad score but would like to try and boost it this time. To practice I purchased the Griffiths Essay course and have written and submitted 10 essays with mostly good feedback. The problem is the Griffiths course recommends using a structure I have never used before. In September I wrote my essays using a Thesis-Antithesis-Synthesis structure recommended in lots of GAMSAT material and on various forums. The Griffiths course recommends using an 8 para...

A Few Questions
Hi guys, I'm a current final-year student at UEA studying Biochemistry and I have an offer to study medicine at Leicester and at UEA and Manchester next year. So I have a lot of deciding to do, fairly quickly! I live with two UEA medics so I know a lot about their course but I don't know much about Leicester so I was wondering if I could ask some current students some questions: 1) What (in your opinion) is the best, and the worst, thing about the Leicester course? 2) Do you get paid transport to placements? 3) How much do you use the iPads and how integrated are they into the way the course is taught? 4) What is an aver...

West Midland North
Hi, I got allocated to WMN foundation school which consists of the following: Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust (RWH) The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust The Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust (SATH) University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust Any recommendations or any that I should avoid like a plague if possible? I know my score and the number of applicants determine whether I get my top choices or not. How hectic are 1A banding posts (how many hours would you be expecting?)? Is there significant difference in work load between 1A an...
