Does resitting my alevel 10 years after still count as a resit
So between the years of 2005-2008 I did my A-levels. Between 2005-2006 I did biology, chemistry, physics and use of maths AS. I got an E in Biology got a U in both physics and chemistry and a E in use of maths AS. I wasn't allowed to resit any of that so for the next 2 years 2006-2008 I did Applied science, Environmental Science and Science for public understanding AS. I got CD in Applied science and E in Environmental science and Science for public understanding. This September I hope to start my A-levels again one after the other (3 years) because I work full time now. The a-levels I want to take are biology, chemistry ...

empathy and clinical communication - is it important?
Dear medical students, I am a PhD student working in the Division of Health Research in the Faculty of Health and Medicine (Lancaster University, UK). As part of my research into effective clinical communication between healthcare professionals and service users I am conducting an online survey which aims to assess how different personality traits, and emotional intelligence, can account for levels of self reported empathy in students and practitioners. I would be very grateful if you could find the time to take part in this study. You may be especially interested in taking part in this research as you will be provided wi...

Are there any alternatives to medicine career?
So my heart was set on medicine, but my mind is set on something OTHER than medicine. I will be completing my A-levels this year, and applied for medicine and biomedicine. But now I am not sure about this as this is a long specific path. I have a somewhat interest in the medical field. So I wanted to ask you guys if you have any other ideas for what I could go into, I like medicine in a passionate way but feel I won't be able to handle the workload, so something less intense/less stressful would be better for me I suppose? Also the thought of surgical procedures just makes me feel uncomfortable. But I heard about Physi...

Midwife to Medicine
Hi all, I'm sure you get many posts like this but here goes anyway! So, I am now a qualified midwife-have been for around 2 years. Have always wanted to study medicine, unfortunately at school didn't have the best grades despite lots of extra work and was told no chance-don't even bother applying. I also do not come from a family who could afford to support me financially through the course and so this was another factor. However, managed to study midwifery-got to uni, was diagnosed as dyslexic and graduated with a 1st class degree. Having spent alot of my time whilst at uni with med students and from what I observe a...

Improving academics - degree vs A levels
Hey all. Im applying for a place on medicine right now. So far 2 out of 4 have been rejections, and I have one unconditional offer for Medical Physiology at KCL - which could serve as a route into grad med. So I am weighing my options now, and making plans on the chance that I do not get in to medicine this time around. I have a good amount of experience. I have been in the Police as both a volunteer Police officer, and as an interviewer in Police recruitment. I have spent 1 year in the NHS in a healthcare assistant-like role, and have significant clinical and non clinical medical experience. I have been a volunteer wit...

Im thinking of studying Psychology, Biology and Chemistry to A2 level and doing either Maths AS or Critical Thinking AS? which would be more useful: maths or critical thinking? Also would psychology be thought of highly by universities? Thank you (Source: New Media Medicine)

Standard grade requirements - please advise!!
Hello all My name is Tom. I sent away my application (1st attempt) in December last year. I am 31, have been to University and have honours degree in sociology and culture. Since then (2009) I have worked as a support worker and currently I am a key worker working with autism. I have achieved many courses such as first aid, epilepsy training etc etc. I also have 4 highers (grade B's) in politics, sociology, English, and History. When I was 15 (sitting my standard grades) I was very unwell and had about 6months off school so didn't do great in my standard grades. As such, TECHNICALLY I do not possess the MINIMUM requirement...

How have/are you been treated whilst working as an HCA?
So I'm trying to get some work experience or even a job as an HCA, but every time i read a blog or post related to HCA work, I'm reading a lot of negative things. Has anybody ever felt that they just wanted to give up medicine as a career whilst working as an HCA? I know for sure that this might put me off, but what i also know is that I've got to keep the bigger picture in mind. I think I'm just looking for some words of encouragement. Thanks all :) (Source: New Media Medicine)
