Handcuffed Behind Back, Teen With No Weapon Shoots Self In Head.
DURHAM, N.C. A Durham teen died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez said Wednesday afternoon at a news conference. Lopez held a 3 p.m. news conference and started by extending condolences to the family of Jesus Huerta, who died in a police cruiser in November. Huerta was 17. He said the noise heard by the officer was a gunshot, and said it was a gunshot wound to the head. Lopez said a handgun... (Source: Dr. X's Free Associations)

Most Views
This image has garnered the most views of any photo I've ever posted to Flickr. Stats on Flickr's front end broke down yesterday at 4200 views, but my dashboard stats (above) show just over 8,000 views of this photo in the past 36 hours. This is far from my favorite shot, but it was selected as a feature photo by Flickr, so it drew crazy traffic. I expected 200-300 views. I've had a few others photos featured, but they didn't... Millennial Journalism
Chicagoist: Despite a concerted effort to pave over every last tree and blade of grass in America’s cities, nature still finds a way. To wit: just days after a cougar was killed by wildlife officials on a northern Illinois farm, we have had some unusual animal interactions even closer to home this week as a mountain lion was sighted slinking around Glencoe near the Chicago Botanic Garden and a coyote crapped up the morning commute for drivers on I-55. Used... (Source: Dr. X's Free Associations)

Bitterly Cold Morning
Chicago Tribune: The temperature dipped below zero overnight at O'Hare International Airport, the earliest that has happened here since 1995. The cold will hold through the week, bringing a burst of snow in time for the morning rush Wednesday. The temperature fell to one degree below zero (-18C) around 12:55 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. That's the earliest subzero readings here since a low of minus 4 on Dec. 9, 1995. By 7 a.m., the temperature had climbed... (Source: Dr. X's Free Associations)

Between Eccentricity and...
Roland Atkinson: Like [psychologist David] Weeks (p. 137), we have found that the dividing line is not clear-cut, that is, between functional eccentrics and those who have a (history of ) mental disorder. Some of our artists demonstrate both. Their quirks not withstanding, settled, contented eccentrics should not be labeled as mentally ill in the absence of current distress or dysfunction. Mental disorders purported to cause or accompany eccentricity in at least some instances include cyclothymic and bipolar disorders, Asperger’s... (Source: Dr. X's Free Associations)

Be Evil
Anyone else think Google is too aggressive in their efforts to push users into their social network? I just had a problem getting into Gmail from the Google browser. Damn thing was insistent that I fill out my public profile to make it easier for friends to find me. Wouldn't let me navigate anywhere else. Wouldn't allow me to decline.
