Are you improving health information literacy at your institution? Do you have a skill to teach? The Institute for Healthcare Advancement is seeking breakout session presentations for their Health Literacy Conference on May 9-11, 2014 in Irvine, California. The conference theme is “Operational Solutions to Low Health Literacy.” This year they are emphasizing the Affordable Care Act and ways in which health literacy skills help with outreach, education and enrollment efforts. Identifying Measures of the Attributes of a Health Literate Health Care Organization
The Institute of Medicine Roundtable on Health Literacy, with funding from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, has allocated $10,000 for a commissioned paper that identifies measures for each of the 10 attributes of a health literate health care organization. The goal is to obtain a set of measures that support quality improvement, reporting, transparency, and management. Everyone is welcome to apply and to send this announcement on to others you think may be qualified to prepare the paper. Deadline for submitting applications is November 20, 2013. FUNDING: EFTS Award for DOCLINE Users- Deadline to Apply is October 31st
The MidContinental Region (MCR) is offering $150 in start-up funding for  the Electronic Funds Transfer System (EFTS) to each MCR library using DOCLINE but not currently participating in the EFTS program.  EFTS is used by health sciences libraries, and other DOCLINE users,  for processing payment of inter-library loan transactions.   Benefits include reduced costs,  minimizes human error, reduced paperwork and  increases efficiency.  More information on the program is here. Improving Patient Engagement with Electronic Health Records
One of the benefits of the meaningful use of EHRs is patient empowerment, enabling patients to take a more active role in their health care.  In turn, EHR vendors are currently developing more tools and avenues for patient engagement.  Epic President, Carl Dvorak, described some ideas they are developing for “MyChart,” Epic’s patient facing app, at the recent Partners Healthcare Connected Health Symposium. /rv (Source: Midcontinental Region News)
