Late and very late drug-eluting stent thrombosis in the immediate postoperative period after antiplatelet withdrawal: a retrospective study
Conclusion: Caution should be exercised when attempting to withdraw antiplatelets preoperatively in patients with DES even when the recommended 12-month period of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) has elapsed. The significant morbidity and mortality of this complication warrants further research to study the ideal perioperative management of antiplatelets in patients with prior DES deployment over 1 year who are still receiving DAPT. Atropine first is safer than conventional atropine administration in older people undergoing dobutamine stress echocardiography
Conclusion: In older patients undergoing DSE, using atropine as a start drug, that is, adopting the ADSE protocol, is associated with shorter test duration, lower mean dobutamine infusion rate and consequently fewer adverse effects. (Source: Therapeutic Advances in Cardiovascular Disease)

Exploration of pharmacological interventions to prevent isoproterenol-induced myocardial infarction in experimental models
High incidences of myocardial infarction associated with high morbidity and mortality, are a major concern and economic burden on industrialized nations. Persistent β-adrenergic receptor stimulation with isoproterenol leads to the development of oxidative stress, myocardial inflammation, thrombosis, platelet aggregation and calcium overload, which ultimately cause myocardial infarction. Therapeutic agents that are presently employed for the prevention and management of myocardial infarction are beta-blockers, antithrombotics, thrombolytics, statins, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin II type 1 recep...

Influence of typical angina versus inducible myocardial ischemia in the contemporary management of stable coronary artery disease
Conclusion: Although patients with TA more often had ischemic SPECT, all-cause death was not significantly increased. Nonetheless, TA was associated with more frequent referrals for CATH and revascularization, even with nonischemic SPECT. This may suggest that despite current evidence, the management of stable patients with known or suspected CAD is influenced by symptom type. (Source: Therapeutic Advances in Cardiovascular Disease)

Atorvastatin improves systolic function, but does not prevent the development of dilated cardiomyopathy in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats
Conclusions: Whereas atorvastatin does not reverse ventricular dilatation, it does have a positive hemodynamic effect on the CV system of diabetic rats. This hemodynamic benefit is independent of cholesterol levels, and is observed concomitantly with reduced oxidative stress, vascular remodeling, and improved endothelial function. Together, these results suggest that atorvastatin decreases the workload on the heart and improves systolic performance in type 1 diabetic rats by reducing oxidative stress, vascular tone, and systemic vascular resistance. Aortic distensibility in bicuspid aortic valve patients with normal aortic diameter
Conclusions: Regardless of the valve morphology and also in the absence of aortic dilation, aortic distensibility is impaired in BAV subjects compared with TAV subjects. This finding supports the idea of an intrinsic aortic wall anomalies underlying the impaired elasticity of the aorta in BAV patients. (Source: Therapeutic Advances in Cardiovascular Disease)

Whole-genome profiling highlights the molecular complexity underlying eccentric cardiac hypertrophy
Conclusions: Our results indicate that eccentric remodeling is a far more complex process than concentric remodeling. This study highlights the importance of several key biological functions early in the course of VO, including regulation of matrix, metabolism, cell proliferation, and contractile function. Thus, the results of this analysis will inform the ongoing search for new treatments to prevent the progression to heart failure in VO. (Source: Therapeutic Advances in Cardiovascular Disease)

Association of ADIPOQ variants and heart failure in an Italian population
Conclusions: We confirm the association between rs266729 G allele and an increased risk of HF and between rs2241766 G allele and decreased risk of HF. Our study extends the knowledge on the influence of ADIPOQ variants on CVD. (Source: Therapeutic Advances in Cardiovascular Disease)

Serum myeloid-related protein 8/14 complex is associated with microalbuminuria in patients with type 2 diabetes
Conclusion: Our data demonstrate that albumin excretion is associated with the process of macrophage activation determined by MRP8/14 levels. These data not only suggest tissue inflammation as a factor for elevated cardiovascular risk in patients with type 2 diabetes, they further point to a role of macrophage activation in this process. Depression and cardiovascular disease in women: is there a common immunological basis? A theoretical synthesis
Clinical studies have established an inherent comorbidity between depression and the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Furthermore, this comorbidity seems to be more amplified in women than in men. To further investigate this comorbidity, a thorough literature review was conducted on studies from 1992 to date. The PubMed database was accessed using the keywords: cardiovascular disease, inflammation, depression, and sex differences. Both human and animal studies were considered. This review takes the standpoint that depression and CVD are both inflammatory disorders, and that their co-occurrence may be related to...

Conclusions: These findings indicate no evidence of nitrate tolerance caused by long-term administration of nebivolol. On the contrary, long-term intake of nebivolol increases rather than decreases the NO-mediated vasodilating effects. (Source: Therapeutic Advances in Cardiovascular Disease)
