Are Modic changes in patients with chronic low back pain indicative of a worse clinical course? 10 years of follow-up
ConclusionsThere is no relationship between Modic changes in MRI and greater intensity of lumbar pain or need for medical or surgical treatment at 10 years of follow-up. Modic changes cannot be considered a sign of bad prognosis by themselves, or an indication for surgery.

Navigated versus conventional total knee arthroplasty: A prospective study at three years follow-up

Arthroplasty knee registry of Catalonia: What scientific evidence supports the implantation of our prosthesis?
ConclusionsThere was a significant number of implanted prostheses (11.24%) for which no clinical evidence was found. The number of models should be noted, 36 out of 110, with fewer than 10 units implanted. The use of arthroplasty registries has proved an extremely useful tool that allows us to analyse and draw conclusions in order to improve the efficiency of this surgical technique.

Predictive value of Modic type II changes in the choice of surgical treatment of lumbar disc herniation
DiscussionThe data obtained and the characteristics of our study, we cannot say that Modic type II changes were a predictive sign of the result of lumbar discectomy in our study population.

Acute ischiofemoral impingement?
We report a case of rare clinical entity, which comes within the spectrum of hip impingements. The case deals with a 36 year old female, Olympic athlete, who developed ischiofemoral impingement 14 months after a surgical hamstring reattachment. She was treated conservatively and fully recovered. When looking into literature on this matter, we found that it is probably an under-diagnosed problem, particularly in patients with no history of prior surgery. To our knowledge, this is the first case reported after a hamstrings tendon reattachment.

O-POSSUM score predicts morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing hip fracture surgery
Conclusion By comparing the observed results with those predicted, the O-POSSUM scale is reliable in predicting mortality and overestimates morbidity. (Source: Revista Espanola de Cirugia Ortopedica y Traumatologia)

Cross-linked polyethylene does not reduce wear in total knee arthroplasty
Conclusions Cross-linked polyethylene does not significantly reduce the generation of polyethylene particles in patients with total knee arthroplasty, 3 years after the surgical procedure. (Source: Revista Espanola de Cirugia Ortopedica y Traumatologia)

Surgical treatment in bone metastases in the appendicular skeleton
Discussion The presence of a fracture in previously damaged territory is a catastrophic complication for most cancer patients. A clear understanding of the life expectancy of patients with bone metastases is of great help to prevent errors and failures in treatment. Clinical assessment of patients with isolated hip fractures associated with an upper limb fracture
Conclusions Patients with an associated fracture have a higher previous functional capacity and they are more independent. Nevertheless, after the fracture they need more help from the healthcare system for optimal functional recovery. (Source: Revista Espanola de Cirugia Ortopedica y Traumatologia)

Arthrodesis of the proximal interphalangeal joint of the 4th and 5th finger using an interlocking screw device to treat severe recurrence of Dupuytren's disease
Conclusion The system offers a reliable method for IPJ arthrodesis at a precise angle. It promotes stable fixation that does not require prolonged immobilisation. It can be used together with other procedures on the hand with severe recurrence of DD. The functional outcomes for this group of patients using this device were poor. Comparison of functional results of two fixation systems using single-row suturing of rotator cuff
Discussion and conclusions The functional results of the single-row cuff suture are satisfactory, although biomechanical studies show advantages in favor of sutures that reproduce a transoseo system. It our series of patients the presence of knotting does not show per se a significant functional difference being both superimposable techniques in absolute values of functionality and patient satisfaction.
