Nanoantibiotic formulations to combat antibiotic resistance - Old wine in a new bottle.
Authors: Awasthi R, Rana R, Sharma B, Kulkarni GT Abstract BACKGROUND: Antibiotic resistance is becoming one of the major obstacles to treatment success in various pathological conditions. Development process of a new antimicrobial agent is slow and difficult, whereas bacterial resistance is decreasing the arsenal of existing antibiotics. Therefore, there is a need to develop novel antibiotic formulations to combat the resistance of existing antibiotics. Nanoparticles are investigated as novel antibiotic formulation, but are often inefficient in practical applications. Nanotechnology presents a new frontie...

Scientific Papers and Patents on Substances with Unproven Effects. Part 2.
In conclusion, placebo therapies can be beneficial and ethically justifiable but it is not a sufficient reason to publish biased information. Importantly, placebo must be devoid of adverse effects, otherwise it is named pseudo-placebo. Therapeutic methods with unproven effects should be tested in high quality research shielded from the funding bias. Some issues discussed in this review are not entirely clear, and the arguments provided here can initiate a constructive discussion. Scientific Papers and Patents on Substances with Unproven Effects.
Authors: Jargin SV Abstract It is evident from reviewing of scientific literature that the quality of argumentation in some areas of medical research has deteriorated during last decades. Publication of series of questionable reliability have been continued without making references to the published criticism; examples are discussed in this review. Another tendency is that drugs without proven efficiency are advertised, corresponding products patented and marketed as evidence-based medications. Professional publications are required to register drugs and dietary supplements to obtain permissions for the pr...

A review on enteric coated pellets composed of core pellets prepared by extrusion-spheronization.
Authors: Patel H, Gohel M Abstract Enteric coated dosage form bypasses the stomach and releases the drug into the small intestine. Advantages of enteric coated pellets in comparison with enteric coated tablets are a) Pellets provide rapid onset of action and faster drug release due to the smaller size than tablets and b) Pellets exhibits less residence time of acid-labile drugs in the stomach compared to tablets. Dosage form coat can be damaged by longer resistance time in the stomach. The present review summarizes the current state of enteric coated pellets where core pellets are prepared by extrusion-sph...
